            Yep. Now it's there.

So where did you want to put this hole? I put one on the same surface as the other two holes you'd drawn. No problem just drawing the oval hole and pushing it through.

Are you able to create a void using the highlighted shape selected in the below screenshot? the depth is 5mm.

No but it looks like the bottom face isn't parallel to the top so it isn't surprising. It's not car out but it doesn't take much.

You've got a lot of messy geometry in that model and I think it's causing you the problems. If I were in your shoes I would start the entire model from scratch and make better use of components.

                case innards.png

I wouldn't make this all as one big hunk of geometry. I'd split it up into sections that represent the way it would be made in reality. Make each of those parts into components.

Sigh... see im a massive sketchup noob ๐Ÿ˜ž

Once a component is made can it not be reversed?

What do you mean it cannot be reversed? Do you mean modified? Of course it can. You simply open it for editing by right clicking on it and choosing Edit component or double clicking on it with the Select tool.

I don't mean to sound condescending but I think before you tackle this computer case, you should try some simpler things and actually learn to use the program.

Here's an example of my workflow. Perhaps it'll give you some ideas.

Yeah I know how to edit a component, but as soon as your done editing it and click somewhere else the component is saved. is it possible to make a component not a component?

Do you have any good guides I could read or video tutorials?

EDIT: thanks I'll take a look at your workflow ๐Ÿ˜„

I don't understand what the problem is with saving the changes in your component. Why would you want to edit something and not save the changes?

It wasn't intended as a basic tutorial but you should see that I draw one piece and make it a component before moving on to the next and I add details after all the large parts are in place by opening the components and editing them.

I still don't understand your comment that you don't want to save changes you make when you edit components.

You can make it a "Group" or you can "Make Unique".

Group makes it a simple individual bunch of geometry.
Make Unique keeps it as a component but a new one so it doesn't alter other versions of the original component, but will alter new versions of itself.

If you want to modify just one instance of a component make it unique (context menu or edit menu).

Ok thanks guys, I think I'll read up on the basics and make sure I know what I'm doing, then perhaps start on something more simple.

Your model is not bad, just build it like in real life: all separated parts must be a component or at least a group so they don't interfere with each others. ๐Ÿ‘
