Problem using plug-ins

Hi guys, I'm trying to get the round edge plug-in by fredo6 working on my sketchup. So far I've put the LiBFredo6 and RoundEdge plugins into the plugin folder. But why do I get a "load error" message when I open SketchUp?

If you told us the whole error-message it'd be more helpful...
However, you have clearly made an error in how you've installed the files/folders...
Reread the installation guides and double-check everything is in the right place.
If you still have problems post the full errors and screen-shots of you Plugins folder, so we can see how the files/folders have been installed, and then advise you...

Hey TIG, The error message was something like "cannot load libfredo.rb" However, I've switched from Windows and am currently trying to install it on Mac. Now I've placed the contents into the appropriate plugin folder and I still can't find the Round Edges option.

Perhaps there is a problem with where I have the files? This is what it looks like.

I try loading yours CofG files, but I am a Newbie and I do not know how to do that. I loading the files into mu Desktop, but what I have to do next in order to use yours CofG?

Just a thought, and possibly a naive one ( I have a very limited understanding of computers ) What about some guru writes a a standard 'install' program that you download and it prompts you through the process.
You know.....NEXT......NEXT.......install.....restart program. Perhaps the ruby developer uses a standard template, installs their plugin in the standard template so it is downloaded as a package, where the use simply follows the prompts.
I have had many issues with installing plug-ins with varying degrees of success, and have read many requests for assistance, such as above. I think it is time that either Google or some talented skethucation guru try and Remedy this. Seems like such a sophisticated friendly product has a untidy interface with installing plugins. Evidenced by the amount of traffic this issue has.

Am interested to find the views of others on this

i think you'd be better off using the 'install extension' option in sketchup (preferences->extensions)

if you download a .zip containing a sketchup plugin, change the file type from .zip to .rbz (ruby zip) then install it through the preference panel..

or, thomthom made a ruby which will install .zip files without changing the file name:

Put the .rb file into the Plugins folder and restart SUp... Read the tool's instructions on its use...

You're using the wrong Plugin folder. See this thread .

But I have simple questions: (1) Should I create Plugins folder, or it is already exist somewhere in my computer; (2) I create the folder Plugins on the desktop, then I extract the files into this folder; next, How I can connect Google SketchUp (free downloaded by me) with the files in Plugins?

The Plugins folder already exists under SketchUp.

I found the folder, and successfully use C of G program. So far it work.

I don't see the difference between the one in the link and the one I'm using. The only way I can reach the plugins folder is by going to Applications>Google Sketchup>Sketchup>Contents>Plugins.

Maybe I'm using a different version of sketchup, or I have a new Mac OS(Lion), but that's the closest I can find.

On a Mac, I believe it should be something like this (where # is your SU version number - are you sure you have SU 4 BTW?)

Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp #/SketchUp/Plugins

What's so hard about Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Google SketchUp 8/SketchUp/Plugins? There is a huge difference between that and what you're using. Close isn't good enough for this sort of thing.

Good catch on the version, Csaba. It's a long way back but was there even a Plugins folder back then?

I think plugins started with version 4. Some old users should confirm.

i admit it can be confusing in that sketchup on mac can have 3 different plugins folders.. the one you're trying though is not correct..
get out of the application folder for starters..

open a finder window (click on the finder icon in the dock)

at the top left of that window, you'll see 'Macintosh HD' (or whatever you may have named your root drive).. click on that

double click the folder 'Library'
double click the folder 'Application Support'
double click the folder 'Google Sketchup 8'
double click the folder 'SketchUp'
and you'll now see the folder 'plugins'

that's where the rubys go.
