You could make it a polyline if the vertical lines are not in the same context. For example put the curve into a group that does not include the vertical line. You could then weld it and the vertical lines won't intersect it and thus divide it.

But you cannot have the vertical lines intersect the arc without breaking it at the intersections.

I think he´s very well aware of that polyline stuff. Somehow I am under impression that he´s doing this on purpose, asking the same questions all over again. Yet hardly any explanation is good enough.

Well, if a poll about this pops out, you´ll know for sure.

                Dear Dave
imagine you want to use extrude edges by rails... so there shouldnt be group right?
an if you explode it its like nothing has happened!
What would you do.(imagine you want to use it as a path or profile or..)
And my English isnt that good so I didnt understand it:"I thought I got a whiff of Arjun." what does it mean?
                thnx

If I make a circle, extrude that to cylinder, explode the bottom circle, select those edges via the edit menu , use Fredos Bezier plugin which has an polyline option then those edges are reported as curve entity( aka polyline per users guide?) in SU. I can weld those and if styles end points is selected you will note there is no intersection showing. Those can then be selected without putting the vertical lines in a differnt context.
Note if the vertical lines are keep as hidden then they are deleted during the above steps or some faces are lost ( when not hidden) which you need to remake.
Did I do something wrong or??
Using Su 7.1+ and have not checked for latest release of Freods plugin

                    Dnt,

You wouldn't need all of those vertical lines if you're going to extrude the polyline along a vector. One of them would be sufficient.

As DaveR said all you need for most of the EEby... tools is 1/2/3/4 curves [or in some cases some edges]...
So separate them from other geometry by copying/moving into a group [paste-in-place].
Then weld the edges into appropriate sets of 2/3/4 curves and use EEbyRails - or whatever it is you need - inside the group context so other edges won't 'stick'...

                        Thank you dear friends.
I would try your solution( I wanted to know the logically possible)
And ask if there was any other thing.
