Did this SketchUp Logo come up after SU8?
-
I went to the SketchUp site to grab the SU icon for a presentation, and realized it isn't anywhere on the site (maybe hidden in corner somewhere?). This is what I saw. I hadn't seen this, but then again I hadn't been to the site in a while.
That is for Pro. The Free version looses the drawings and blue import/export arrows.

I've not noticed it before - new branding consultant - likes 'blue/gray' ???

New and unimproved

We should totally make a logo contest!! Recreate the SketchUp logo using SketchUp. Just for fun of course. We could even make transparent icons out of the top designs and people could use those for their SketchUp desktop icon if they wish. I wouldn't mind setting one up if anyone's interested.

If you ask me, it sucks
If SU is mostly used by people who also join SCF, why Google don't ask here for such things? We have Speed Modelling contest, so what would be so hard to make a "logo contest" ?
Also, we have SU Wishlist, bug reports... I'm disappointed about how Google develops SketchUp, by not taking into consideration users needs. -
It gets a big from me. More interesting is the little extension that's been added.
-
I for one would like something that shows that SU isn't just for architectural projects.
-
I guess the next most basic thing(s) to show in a logo, that would be widely recognizable, and reflect the Google Sketchup mission statement in some way would be geometric primitives with mesh lines? Or houses and cars?
-
I picture a promotional video with a rendered animation and walk-through, first looking at the outside of a house then it transforms into a wireframe and the camera flies around it then back to the rendered view, going on to take a look at the car in the driveway, then inside to look at a table, cell phone, vanity, kitchen, etc., each showing a wireframe fly around.

Wow, is Speilberg gonna get on board with this?
-
Perhaps then a dynamic logogram instead of a static one?
-
I kind of like that one. Its pleasant. What is so bad about it?
Especially when you compare it to this one that some genius from corporate branding made.

Down on the right hand side, look for it. That to me me is a bad icon. Dark red on red, how ugly can they get?

If I knew nothing about SU and looked at that logo, I would assume it's just for making houses and such. There's a lot more to SU than just making houses and furniture. Why shouldn't the logo reflect that?

I suppose it does miss a lot of what SU is capable of. But at least it doesn't look hideous while doing it like the red one, which also is just a house icon.
But in Google's defense, the icon has been a house since they bought the software.

"Because that's the way it's always been" isn't much of a reason. But hey, what's the point of this thread anyway, Google is going to pay no more attention to anything we come up with than they pay attention to our suggestions for ways to improve their program.

It's true, but we'll keep trying ... the shamans were dancing to bring the rain and sometimes the rain came We are the SketchUp shamans...

The Logo Contest might be kinda fun tho. Since people would know this isn't actually going to be used by Google they could go nuts with it.
