I'm having troubles syncing my textures properly. How exactly do we create access to the texture folder in a 'single network', and what about the textures that are in sketchup's temp folder? Ive been able to be partially successful by copying the texture folder on each computer, but It's a hassle to always update them for each render, and the temp folder content is always changing too. Is there also a way to change the default sketchup texture temp folder through some settings?

I handle it with a networkdrive. I enabled the networksharing for my folder with my stored textures on my source computer and connect each other computer and the source computer itself in the exact same way. So each computer is able to access any used texture in the model. For example "R:\Textures\Tile.jpg". But i don't have any idea for the tempfolder. Maybe make sure that you use only Textures from the shared folder?!

Hello,
I'm trying to set up Distributed Rendering Spawner according to the tutorial but can somebody explain me what exactly must be turned on on 'slaves' and what on 'leading computer'? I've been looking for the answer on the forums but I havent't found it. I've tried different possibilities and during rendering I can see that DR Spawner is turned on but 'the slave' isn't working. Thanks for help

You need to run DR Spawner on Slave computers and set your master computer to use Distributed Rendering.

This is surprisingly still relevant five years later. Works like a boss with Amazon's EC2 servers. Thanks, Rodrigo!

Hi
Can someone indicate me if that's possible tostart a render on slave computers only, in order to keep the main computer available for working on sketchup during render ?
Thanks

Only with the latest 1.6 beta.

I been scanning forums relating to this topic. Although old, this thread seems to be the only and most recent discussion regarding the sharing of textures.
When enabling a texture folder to be shared on the network, are you setting that folder location in the sketchup system preferences under files?
It seems to me that sketchup resamples the texture within the file and when you open it, then dumps the resamples into the temp folder. Because when I open a sketchup file in a different machine, it still has retains all the textures?
The problem with using spawner, is that SKU is not open and the spawner isn't linked to the temp folder with the resample textures?
I can get the render farm to work, but it appears that the slave machine isn't rendering any material that isn't default?
I'm probably expecting too much, the added speed is already nice. I just thought if I could resolve the texture issue I can increase the speed.

Hi,
I believe (and anyone correct me if I'm wrong) that at the time of rendering it no longer has anything to do with SKMs and their location. You need to ensure that there is a folder that all nodes (main and slaves) have access to. This is where Vray will dump its material information for all the slaves to read.

Hi,
I'm working on a PC, with skp8 & vray 1.49.01 installed, but I also have 3 imacs available. I'd like to set distributed renders on the 3 macs, from my PC... (all machines are working on the same gigabit network, whit a storage nas)
SO I installed vray DRspawner on the iMacs, but I'd like to know if that's possible to set a DR between mac & PC ?All the materials, textures & ies are stored on the same nas, accessible from all machines. SO, I tried...
My main issue is that on my PC, materials path is something like Z:/FOLDERS/Material.jpg
Although the macs are using this kind of path : /Volumes/FOLDERS/Material.jpg So, if I let the Z:/, the macs can't find materials...
That's surprising, but when I set the "mac style path" (starting by /Volumes...) in vray (on the PC), the PC can find the textures, and of course, the imacs can find the texture too. GREAT !So, no problem for the materials, since I rewrite the paths, by replacing Z:/ by Volumes/
But it's not working for IES... When I set a /volumes/ path to ies lights... The PC can't find them, and I get dark renders
Any idea ?
Is it there an other way to set DR between mac & PC ?thx

DR in 1.49.01 was always broken I believe. I really need to implore you to invest in the upgrade to 2.0 where DR is flawless now.
-
SInce I use DR from a PC to a PC, or from mac to mac, I have no problem with version 1.49.
Does the version 2.0 improve the compatibility between mac & pc ?
thx -
yes, DR stability is improved in 2.0 in all cases.
