Actually really like the viewport render right now...perhaps just a photoshop airbrush pass for enhancement and keep the nice clean technical lines?

I'll be watching this project, very nice.

if you export to your render engine and match the angle with the viewport you can achieve a nice black line overlay with subtle render underneath: http://m.cmcdn.net/13521645/940x536.jpeg

Liam, could you explain a little more? It sounds interesting, but I am not sure what is meant by "viewport" or the process you described or Adam what is meant by photoshop airbrush pass.

Love the example from the link!

Thanks Modelhead. I must say I was VERY surprised at just how authentic the plain SketchUp animation output looked.

Thanks Mirian. Great tutorial. Bookmarked. πŸ‘

                            Thanks Burt and Liam.

The hub looks like it's going to take some time. It's hard to tell, but it looks like there is some kind of sliding hatch over the hub's docking collar for the cargo modules. Also, the docking details for the lander/shuttle are non-existent.

The book also calls for a cargo handler on the opposite side of the lander. I have found one done by gmcgavren in the Warehouse and need to figure out how to attach it or give it a "hanger" module of it's own.

It's a very deceptive looking module.

Well, I'd be disappointed that you didn't find room for the cargo handler, but to me it just seems like it would be an awkward addition, and not fitting for the style of the ship. My style has actually evolved quite a bit since I built the one you found, and I wasn't actually going to share this one, but I have something that seems closer to the modular style that the "Pride" utilizes. I actually designed it to attach to the docking port of a cargo module and tug it that way. Seemed more practical. I studied the docking mechanism of the space shuttle to get a realistic design. Pilot's by...you guessed it...Max Grueter.

                              Hi Glen!

What a shock to see this thread again AND you posting here!

I didn't use your model after all as it wouldn't show up in the final composition and I also didn't contact you for permission.

This new model looks perfect for the intended purpose. Thanks for showing it!

However, the only thing I will probably do next to the model is interiors. Living decks and machinery decks. And that might not happen until later this year.

I still haven't contact Allen Steele yet either. Got very busy after this model and I've only made one more complex model since. (and now I have very little free time AND designers block πŸ˜† )

                              Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Thanks much, I'm glad to be here! A lot of talent in this forum, I see. I didn't think anyone would actually have a use for that cargo handler, since it's kind of a specialized piece, so I was anxious to see your end product when you mentioned it in your review. A Google search for some of my old work turned up this thread, so here I am. No worries, though, I think you did a fantastic job on the "Pride." Keep up the good work.

I apologize. I'm currently shuttling between to places these days and my workstation is at the place I am now spending the least amount of time at. That's why you haven't seen any work from me lately.

I've also been working a new job for the last 8 months, so free time to model is in short supply and also causing creator's block.

I hope to get back to modeling soon. I still need to master this thing and the "call" of creating is starting to drive me crazy. The muses are getting louder. πŸ˜„

Far from not learning much in five years, Bryan, it has been a privilege to see your work. Yours are among the first models/scenes I look for when I get to the forum. You make fine models Sir.

NB, those scenes above remind me of the renders Steve posts, the cars and the garage in particular. Really nice scenes that need none of the complications that renders often bring to the forum. Bloomin nice scenes there.
