I'm getting a kind of hazy light and I wonder if anyone can make suggestions about sharpening up the image, making it a bit crisper.

      Thanks in advance.

Oh, Vray 1.49 (I think - I'm on a 30 demo. Not sure where you get that info)

Two suggestions: light source and antialiasing.

Are you using the Sun as a light source? If so, then you should check that the sun size is 1.0. The bigger it gets, the softer the edges of the shadow. If you are using a light source, then it depends... what is your light source?

As for antialiasing, check what antialiasing filter you are in the Image Sampler options. By default is it Area with a size of 1.5. Try Catmull Rom at 1.5. If you still want more crisp edges, then bump up the size to 2 or 2.5. You could try 3 but that is probably overkill. Increasing the size will increase render time, so it's good to find the smallest size that makes you happy.

        Hope that helps!

Definately change the sun size to 1 for starters. This is under your Environment tab, then click the M next to GI Color, then change the Size under General.

Next, I would enable Ambient Occulsion (under Indirect Illum)check on and set the amount to .5 and maybe a radius of 8.0. This will help add punch and detail to those nooks.

Thanks for both of your replies.

I just purchased a VRay license and deleted the demo version I was using. I did that before I read these posts so I'm not sure what settings I was using.

Later today I'll open the scene again and experiment with the settings you each suggested and see what happens.

I finally got back to this work and started with the Catmull Clark advice. That made a tremendous difference - it made everything very crisp and clear, like taking gauze off the picture. Now I'm going to systematically try the other suggestions.

I'll report back later but I wanted to stop in and say thanks - that was a real help.
