Lag in opening SketchUp
-
I downloaded a demo of Vray yesterday (1.49.01) and now there's a real lag in opening SketchUp. Is that normal? Expected? Is there any way I can tell SketchUp to not load Vray unless I tell it to? It's not a big lag but moving in and out of different files was instantaneous before I downloaded Vray so it's kind of a drag now.
Also, when working with older files (I've just moved to a new computer and I'm arranging and deleting and doing all of that) I get a Bugsplat when I close. It doesn't seem to affect working with the files so I close the window and go on. Not sure if this is related to the Vray demo download.
Thanks in advance for any input.

I have the same problem, but I never thought it's vray's fault. However, Thomas (read vray guru) made a plug-in to load vray on demand. Here's the link for it:

Every add-on / script etc that loads with Sketchup MUST slow down its loading time - it stands to reason...
So if you have just installed such a major tool then you must expect a few seconds longer for Sketchup to initialize...
There is an issue with redundant registry entries for 'old toolbar settings' slowing this too... BUT the main culprit is things loading as expected.............. -
Thanks for the replies. I suspected it was normal behavior but I didn't want to go on a wild goose chase hunting down the culprit if it was an expected situation.

My system slowly increased start up time over the period of a year. I had occasion to uninstall, the install v8, and SketchUp boot went from a long time to 4 seconds. From what other have posted, I am guessing that my messing with menus was the cause, especially since the number of plugins remains the same.

VfSU does add a significant delay in the loading time of SU. That's why I wrote V-Ray Toys which allows me to keep VfSU disabled and only load it on demand when I need it. That helps my workflow because I run far more sessions of SU where I don't use V-Ray functions.

I'm glad to see I'm not alone with this problem. I tried out the latest version of V-ray, to see what it would make of all the vegetation I do with alpha transparency. The load time for SU increased from around 5 secs (even loading the previous version of V-ray) to nearly a full minute (or so it seemed). Needless to say, I uninstalled it again. Maybe I'll give it another chance with V-Ray Toys installed.
I've also noticed that I get error reports generated if I quite SU8 after a V-Ray render...especially if I quite very shortly after. It tells me that SU has stopped working; of course it has...I just closed it.
