First snow here this year.

You gotta be able to get to the cows before you can milk 'em.
The amazing thing with all this snow is it was probably the equivalent of a couple or three inches of rain.
-
Depending on conditions, 1 inch-2.54cm of rain equals 10 inches-25.4cm of snow. I think I prefer the rain, although the snow has an aesthetic appeal from a distance
-
I like it from a distance, too.
-
Apologies to Gaieus. It's still your thread.
-
It's allsnow (and rain) thread!
(And after all, we are in the Corner Bar where people meander everywhere)
-
Time to put the sandals into storage Csaba
-
I have some nice, new boots (since 2005 actually)

We got our first snow on Sunday. Big puffy flakes at times but nothing stuck. Odd really because for the past 4 days or so the temp has not been above freezing.
-
first snow of the year in nyc last night as well (first snow that stuck at least).. not much but the ground is white.
i don't mind the snow or even cold temps for that matter.. it's that damn winter wind i can't stand.
-
First snow in Alexandria/Romania(this year) was this morning, but by 12:00 was already melted.

About that snow here in Minnesota...this happened Sunday morning:

First sticking snow here in VT...
-
No snow on my side of the country (West of Ireland) yet, although the east has has some heavy snow over the past few weeks. The problem is that we rarely get snow and are not geared up for it. However I think I should be okay with my Snow Socks
-
Have you ever tried to put snow tyres (chains) on? It's a bastard!!
But we could really do with them, because it's going back down to -4c tomorrow!
-
I only have all weather radials on the vehicles. In fact I don't think very many people use studded snow tires here anymore. A lot of places don't allow them anyway because they are hard on the pavement. It has been too cold here for the chemical (commonly referred to as salt but it isn't sodium chloride) they use to melt the ice and snow to work so it doesn't look like they've been bothering to run the trucks anyway. Should be warming up some today--at least above 0Β°F--so maybe they'll get some out. More snow is forecast for the rest of the week, too.

What?? You drive on the pavement?!
-
In Britain, the highways agency have been relying so heavily of forecast from the Met Office, who assured us that we were going to have warm, wet winters, that they have completely failed to stock up on salt!!!
Personally, I've been following the forecasts of this Dr Piers Corbyn who runs WeatherAction. Piers has been getting a rather high accuracy long term forecast for several years now. The Met Office hate him!!
Good old Piers!

Normaly we have in the Netherlands freezing cold weather but not so much snow. Last year we had a snowy winter, and this winter it is also very snowy. For the upcoming weekend we have a snow warning, because lot's of snow is coming.
-
i'm partial to moving about on 2 wheels, year round...
fat tires for float
studded tires for ice
but our 4 wheeled steed has some all season nokians that i've been impressed with.
in my bachelor days i had a 2 wheel drive truck. lots of sandbags in the rear for when i moved to snow country.
i eventually picked up a subaru with all wheel drive. added some snows and it could get me everywhere i needed to go - hike, ski, etc. ground clearance was an issue... -
In the southern states, the possibility of snow is something that toys with the emotions of kids all winter long. It's either too cold and dry or too warm and wet. Rarely do the conditions come together for a really good snow. But if there is ever a strong low pressure in the northern Gulf of Mexico and an approaching cold front β it's time to run to the grocery store and buy up all of the bread and milk!!
Slight chance of snow tonight...but it's the weekend. That's no good!!
