started to tinker with an idea a few days ago, and now i'm all for taking it to a completed model.

A few years ago, when I first discovered sketchup, I found a KTM 125 SX bike on the 3dwarehouse. That one model had captivated me into modeling. I started with sketchup by reposting a few models from the warehouse after editing. Slander from some members, and some spam from others, lead to me deleting several models from the warehouse. I still have the bikes I made edits to in the warehouse, and in 2009 I built a "pit bike" using a few of the components from KTM model.

This time, i'm starting from scratch. should take me a few months, but with the cold weather and wife telling me to put a hold on winter car & truck projects, this should keep me entertained.

attached are a few screen shots.

*i'll be in the shop tonight with a tape measurer in hand to get more of the layout complete.
      open for suggestions.

        currently under 1.5 MB

When finished, I'm thinking it will squeek in just under 5MB

You've got some lovely detail on the chain and sprocket. I would reduce the segment count for the spokes and chain links. Unless you plan the render the up close. I'd also increase segment count on the larger components.

But so far you got a great eye for detail. Nice work!

more updates. I plan to subdivide and smooth a few of the parts before calling it complete. File is currently 4mb.
                      Remaining parts include:

                      • brakes & lines
                      • motor
                      • carb
                      • radiator hoses
                      • overflow tubes
                      • rear suspension linkage
                      • additions to subframe
                      • more bolt heads for parts

as always, i'm open to suggestions!

I see your 2 stroke exhaust worked out. How did you decide the model it?

                        Great model by the way

thanks for the advice in the other thread! I used the follow me tool, then selected each circle to re-size. still some more tweaking to do, but after the smooth tool is used it should look quite nice.

after the model is complete, i'll build a bike stand and start playing with render programs. i've not yet tried that.
                          thanks!

Will you be putting the engine logo on the side of the engine case?

havent really started on the motor yet. just threw a eyeball guess at the clutch and ignition covers size and position. thinking i'll snap several photos over the weekend and have a good portion of the motor completed for next weeks post.

been having a few problems with random lines wanting to be visible after hiding them on the frame and other parts of the bike. I think i'll start locking a few of the components and see if it solves the problem.

a few more updates. also want to note no image maps are used for the end result. all decals and parts are made via poly.

Ouch! Its really a simple process adding the images onto the model, cutting the face has al sorts of implications,or is there a specific reason behind it? Btw nice bike πŸ˜„

                                            unlocked model on the warehouse

been working on other projects. unlocked this one a few weeks ago.
mostly complete. i fear adding the final few parts will bring it over the 10mb size limit.
