Object changed color
-
Any idea why one of my objects changed color? I haven't painted anything in this yet. Probably no biggie, but in the back of my mind is a nagging suspicion that something weird happened to it that will affect it later, after I've invested time in it.

The blue one needs it faces reversed. triple click then right click and choose reverse faces.
-
Thanks, that did it, but why were the faces reversed? I made them both the same way. And what does having a model with reversed faces do to it, does it affect it in any way (other than the pretty blue color)?

You ask what effect the reversed faces may have?
When/ if you apply a color/ texture/ material to the reversed faces and then export out to some render applications, these programs may not display those areas in the final product. At least that is what I think I have read in this forum.
Why does this happen? That is a bit tougher to answer. It may have something to do with which direction you drew a sequence of lines. OpenGL or Sketchup had to figure out what you meant by that because it was an ambiguous sequence.
Do this: View> Hidden Geometry see that it is checked. Select a white face with the selection tool. Right click and select from the context menu Orient Faces. Most of the time, most of the reversed faces will turn white. It is just good discipline/ practice to do this, along with deleting internal and stray faces and lines. -
Thanks for all your help and information, but I have to apologize. I recently bought "Sketchup For Dummies" and "Sketchup the Missing Manual", and could and should have looked in them for my answers. You guys here on the forum are so great about helping those with problems and questions I just naturally went to the experts. Gotta learn to ride my bike without the Forum training wheels someday.

The order of how you create the vertices in the face (clockwise vs counter-clockwise) determines the direction of the face normal.

Also the current air pressure at sea level and my mom's mood when she gets up in the morning...
-
The vertices thing I could handle, but how am I gonna know what kind of mood your mom's in? I'm so confused!
-
She's always in a bad mood to start with.

Sorry to hear that. Well, I don't know what time it is there in Hungary, but it's 4:30 in the morning here and my old bones are aching. Have a good one.
