That link goes nowhere? Unless the problem is my end?

No, it was my bad, had to configure the MIME for the directory.

I downloaded the file and could not exactly figure out why it is not intersecting yet.

However that carving is in 3D and is placed backwards onto that face (the 3D part showing inside the solid door). Is that on purpose or is it just incidental?

            Mark,

I see the problem you're having and figured out why. Take a look at the screen grab. The arrow points to a very narrow gap between halves of the petals and so there's also a gap in the edge on the surface of the door. The intersect works fine but the missing line segment results in no break between inside and outside. Of course since all the petals are copies. they all have the same problem.

When you draw the first retal, you need to make sure that there is no gap.

Nice cabinet design. Is it something you're going to build.

Csaba, I think Mark intends to carve out the petals so the orientation is correct.

Thanks Dave, I fixed that issue, (actually had to create a new component of fans), but it still won't intersect. The fans can be closed and I can create a face out of them but they will just not intersect to a face. What am I doing wrong?

Hang tight and I'll take a look.

Mark, the edges still aren't closed.

The gaps are difficult to see because you're working with profiles set to 3. If I have some time this evening I'll see if I can make a tutorial to show you how to do it and get it to work.

That would be awesome! In the mean time I'll see what I can do to find those open face items. But shouldn't the Intersect have placed all the closed faces of the fan component on the surface face I selected?

I've been looking at your model some more. I can't create a flat face to skin over the petals. My computer here is under powered though so it is kind of slow. It looks like the exterior edges of your petals are not coplanar either.

I found some other issues with your model unrelated to the fans. We should probably talk about those, too. I'll see what I can manage tonight.

By the way, Intersect does not intersect coplanar faces.

It doesn't? See, I learned something else...

I'm sure there are a few issues with the original drawing, I slapped it together in less than an hour without the carvings.

I did take another look at the fan component and found a number of mistakes that I can correct. Playing with it now and am found a number of edges that did not line up to a plane, fixing them and I was able to get a partial intersect with the face. Half of the fans are still not intersecting which is strange since they are exact duplicates of each other...
