My car....absolutely ruined!
-
Oli - thats a right off right there!!! If its any consolation - cars are easily replaced - people aren't so you can take some solace in that. No one was killed so look at it from the glass half full side!! Then drink the beggar!
-
Bloody hell, all that damage at only 25mph?
-
-
They're getting so good at making cars fall apart easily - before you know it, if you hit a fly doing more than 15mph it'll smach out your windshield, and then blow out all the other windows for good measure...
Glad your ok. I drove off a cliff(well, a really steep hill) at 83mph once. It can take a little time for the nightmares to subside.
-
Yes Oli glad your OK. And from experience the flashbacks do go away.
-
Oli could you blur your number plate on the first pic. Car cloners love authentic reg nos. from write offs
BTW the flashbacks do go away.... at least until the next time
-
There was an oil patch on the road but at least there wasn't an 'Oli' patch on the road afterwards!
-
The flashbacks will go Oli, trust me. I crashed my old motorbike head on into a van at about 50mph. Broken bones, heart surgery........the lot! Took a while but it does get easier. Glad you're OK though, metal is a lot easier to fix than flesh

Ditto. Had two very bad car crashes when I was younger with car's overturn, but no more bad dreams after a while.
Glad you're well Oli. -
As long as you are not hurt, that's the main thing. I hope you had yourself FULLY checked out! You may not be experiencing problems at the moment apart from the bad dreams but be sure to visit a doc and have a quick check over. Its better to be sure about these things even if you feel a bit stupid doing so
Can it be fixed or is it a right off? I think you have personalized number plates, so no worries about modding the pic I imagine?
-
I did a similar thing several years ago, plus the airbag meshed up my face quite badly. I'm surprised your airbag did not deploy?

But good that there where no higher speed. -
Ouch.
Glad you are ok Oli. -
really sad. Looked like a nice car. . .
oh. .. and I am glad you're okay too. by the way.
Seriously though. . .glad you're still around. I need you on the forum to inspire me with cool stuff.
See . .. I can take almost anything and make it about me!!! -
Hi thanks for all the kind words. David it was my pride and joy (sad i know), completely immaculate....I only started driving 18 months ago but i drove it 35000 miles!!...I couldn't afford a car when I was 17 so I kept saving up til I could afford one. Most of the driver side was fine, the repair shop took the parts off to see if there was any further damage so it looks a bit worse than it is really. But yeah its a write off!Something happened to the gearbox which pushed the costs over the edge....so I got a cheque on the way instead. I didn't really fancy having it repaired to be honest! definitely getting a quattro next, this one was front wheel drive. The mechanics said if the gearbox wasnt damaged they could have just bolted on a whole new front end, I think they are designed to crumple like that.
Chris fullmer: you kinda put it into perspective! cheers, mine isnt bad really I just thought the pics looked pretty cool and you guys would appreciate!! maybe some inspiration could come of all the twisted metal!
apparently airbags won't deploy if there isn't enough sudden impact. It was a gradual deceleration across a barrier then a big thud into a pole. Airbags only deploy when necessary, they can cause serious injuries especially if your seat is too low. The car literally spun sideways in the blink of an eye, i couldnt do anything about it. I rang the ambulance to check my mother over (she's fine by the way) and one of the female paramedics said to me "that's what you get for driving a flash car".....I couldn't believe it, to try and mock me after I've had a crash! I was actually gobsmacked I didnt even respond.
thanks for hiding my reg plate i wasnt thinking.

oli,
I am glad you are ok. this is the main thing. cars are objects that can be replaced. you cannot...

Sorry to hear about this, Oli, but glad that nothing happened to you... -
oli Super glad to hear that you were not injured. Sorry about your baby though. I had to say goodbye to my first car a 1972 camero after I hit five cars with it and completely totaled it.
Yes the flashbacks do go away. One thing I clearly remember though is that in the moments that the accident is happening it seems like time is standing still. I remember watching the windshield as it was cracking it seemed as if I was watching every single fissure and it was a time laps video or something. I remember spinning around etc. all in slow motion and then all of a sudden BAM real time returned.
Again great to see that you are fine.

Oli, I have been thinking about your wreck all weekend and it took me back to high school. I was driving in the countryside on a beautiful day when I rounded a banking corner and caught a patch of gravel. I slid off the road and there was a telephone pole to greet my car. Maybe we can reserve this thread as a support group
It took me a while but I found some before and after pictures. Yes that is me polishing the tires back in 1986. That was my beautiful '77 Toyota Celica GT.

This is what happens when you drive and render on your laptop at the same time.
