SketchUP 8

Couldn't agree more... This should have been a v.7.2 or something...
That said... It feels more stable and seem to be handling high poly models better...
Also some of the better ruby plug-ins seem to work both faster and better...
But a major version release... Naahhh...
(but perhaps they've tweaked A LOT under the hood...??)@notareal said:
I really was expecting 64 bit version.
Just read this at the TWR Forum...

I was pretty disappointed that they said not only are they not planning to do 64bit, they don't even see the value of it!
(I think they are all Mac users anyway, which would explain why they aren't in a big hurry).

Did the upgrade to 8 Free, discovered that I lost about 30% of my plugins on the toolbar. It'll take a bit to go through and figure out which ones vanished.
Did you copy the plugins from SU 7.x to SU 8.0?

Some lights about the new Push Pull 2.0?
Push/Pull pre-selected faces
@unknownuser said:
Select a face, then push/pull; it works just like the rest of SketchUpโs modification tools. Super handy when you donโt want to change your point of view.
-
Before PushPull would ignore pre-selected faces and only use the face you clicked on.
If you Pre-Pick in SU8 it will push-pull the selected face even if you are not clicking directly on it. -
Unfortunately, Google just wants us to model the world in 3D for it .... The program does not do anything innovative ... once again ... disappointment!
-
Jeez.. no 64 bit version in 2010? C'mon Google you've dropped the ball! You beta testers couldnt persuade them?

I have believed that was Push Pull multiple with preselect of some facets

~ v 6.4 for me.
SU7 and SU8 are just point upgrades from SU6 IMO. Sketchup is still an awesome programme, but it is pretty much as good as it's ever going to be.

Luckily we have magnificent script writers - I seriously hope that they have stamina to hang on.

There's been some pretty important bug fixes to the API that's going to make a big difference.

So should we consider to spend the upgrade fee for ruby scripters that are able to deliver so much tools in the same time where google give so little... ?

Hi all,
I'm unable to install SU8 here, as only the IT guys have Admin rights.
Can someone please answer me 2 quick question?
- Does SU8 support Multi-Cores?
- Does SU8 support >2Gb Memory (we have 12Gb on our Workstation...)
Thanks!

You decide - when the plugins that require SU8 comes out.
I'm upgrading to SU8 - even just for the modelling part. Some important fixes and improvement here as well. I don't expect SU to make much a wow factor any more - it's a mature product. There are of course lots of room for improvement - though personally I'd prefer SU being maintained as a platform for where developers can make specialised tools. It's why I like SU - like Firefox, I can install the features I want. I'm not too bothered who makes the actual implementation of the features/plugins as long as the platform for which to build them are good enough for continued development.
Personally I feel that 7.1 was a bigger update - with the speed improvements it had. But SU8 is fine.

(i don't know if i should laugh or cry...)
and AMAZING!
The post i did 2 years ago still aplies here (http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=14207&start=165#p107667"This must be a joke...
For the ones saying this was a good release:New modeling tools: NO
new animation tools: NO
new uv maping tools: NO
new engine that suport more heavy scenes: NO
new engine that do better images and shadows: NO
new (even very basic) ways to simulate diferent light sources from the sun: NO"But to be fair, in modeling now we can do better bolean operations (too bad there's the script booltools...damn you Whaat ), in animation we now have a litle image preview (i don't even know what to say for this one...), and for maping we can now work even better with google earth (we all know how great quality and professional textures that gives us, unless we're doing it for google earth...is there even someone who does that for a living?).
Soooo...2 years in development for this...lolol
Ha Ha Ha! Even the shadow bug is here too! HA HA HA HA!
This is just getting better and better
