SketchUP 8

Found it. It's the usual 95.00 to upgrade.
Really gonna give this some serious thought google. Not impressed with the last 4 years of development.

the solids tools and extra view back lines would speed my work.
i'm sure i could get the solids tool functionality from rubies... but.have to think about it.
and see if it is any quicker with geometry.adding angles to layout is also overdue...

Just found this news article on the Google pages:
Here is the upgrade link:

Solid tools...bool tools cost around 20 $...I hope there're others improvements...does google knows what RPO means ? I don't want to throw the stone as I did not test this 8 version for the moment, but I really hope they do not fool us again...

http://sketchup.google.com/intl/en/gsu7/download.html now refers to 7.1 again.

Just installed the free version, it seems I can run both the new one and the old 7.08, this is great to discover the new features "safely"

It appears that the implementation of OpenGl is improved. V8 runs with hardware acceleration on my graphically impaired home PC. However some of my plugins do not load.
-
I guess my main question about this is
Does and update such as this usually include more options for the ruby writers?

Can you please make a post in the affected plugin's thread? (include any error if you get any)

We upgraded our API's Ruby interpreter from version 1.8.0 to 1.8.6, which is a better supported, more stable version. This gives API users the benefits of hundreds of Ruby bug fixes, but version 1.8.6 is also more strict on Ruby syntax. If a script is broken, you may need to contact the script's original author to get an upgraded version.

Looks like they removed the solar orientation setting in the geolocation area for manually setting the north angle in you model, along with dwg/dfx import, in the free version. I wish they wouldn't take away features.

Solid volume display in entity info is much welcomed.
though it'd be nice to be able to change the units.. i draw in feet&inches but volume (for me at least) is always cubic yards..(concrete)
/27 for now. -

/27 for now.Yea - we use mm - but area and volume in m.
Good thing is that total area for materials are now calculated correct for skewed groups/components.

YAY and bugsplatted it first run

Wow, solid tools are super fast! Toolbar fix is also huge. So far so good! Ruby calculations seem faster as well.

From what I've heard, Ruby 1.8.6 is faster than 1.8.0 - though I've yet to run any number on this.
-
Thom, i have recollections of jim running some tests after changing to 1.8.6 and finding it was indeed faster.
