New Material files
-
I downloaded a bunch of files for bike parts, and put them in the material folder for sketchup. I made a new folder called Bike Parts, but none of the files show up when I start the program, and select Bike Parts, in "Material". Am I doing something wrong in the way of getting them into the program? What is the proper procedure? I mainly want to use the program to design recumbent bikes, and that is what I downloaded bike parts for, so I could design and assemble a bike on this program. Please help if I am doing something wrong, getting frustrated.
And if you could direct me to other sites that would possibly have other bike parts, that would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
Materials in SketchUp are paints as such. So you would apply a chrome material to a spring component. What have you exactly downloaded? Are these parts .skp files? Or some other format?
Maybe a link to where you got the files might help sort this out?

From the title 'Bike Parts' it sounds like they are 'Components' [SKP files] that should be in the Components folder ? Then you access them from the Components browser...
If these are 'Materials' they'll be 'SKM' files and will be accessible through the Materials browser if they are in a folder inside 'Materials'.
If they are images [jpg/png/etc] you'll need to add them to a new Material as its Texture file. Can you give a little more information so we can be more help ???

Yes they are all SKP files, and I downloaded them from Warehouse site, and into the material folder in SketchUp. So you are saying that I should creat a sub folder in the "components" folder, (example - BikeParts), and put all the files in there?
Is this a program that will work good for me to create/design recumbent bike frames, or is this primarily for architechture?
If anyone knows of some sites that may have more bike parts, please let me know.
Thanks

Yes sketchup works great for modeling bikes. I have done a few so far. When modeling some of the smaller parts it helps to scale them up at least 10X.
Can you post a link to the bike parts you found in the wearhouse?
Cheers

Yes, here is the link that I got my bike parts from. If you know of any please let me know. Or if you know of any recumbent designs, let me know also.

Thanks for the link but its pretty vague.
I dont have any info on recumbents I have only done burly hardtails.

You just have to go to the link I sent you, and go through each page to pick out what you want. That's all I did. Those are the only bike parts that I've found.
