You can use a image printer driver to pdf2(any image) and this to (any image)2pdf.

I have also used PrimoPDF but eventually found PDFCreator a much better application. It can "print" (virtually of course, like PrimoPDF) not only into a pdf file but a bunch of image formats as well. However its main advantage is that it can compile several files into a single pdf file and those files do not even need to be the same file type so you can put a Word (or any text) document, some images, some other pdf's and all together into a single pdf file.
And yes, of course, OpenOffice has a nice pdf export feature, too.

Tridem sorry for the unclear phrasing.
I have an old portfolio about 20 pages in PDF format.
I have some new projects that i would like to add to the old portfolio.
I can save the pdfs for sure, but i would like to merge the new pages with the old file... -
Thank you Honolulu and Gaieus i will check out both!

PDFillhas a good set of free tools, including splitting and merging PDFs. The UI sucks but the program works very well....just another option
-
There is also a free program called PDFsam at http://www.pdfsam.org which allows you to split and merge PDFs quite easily!

Doe any of these allow one to create PDF forms?
In my Open Office it says something about forms but I have never been able to create any.
-
I use Nuance which is lightweight and very user friendly. It allows forms to be filled out and saved but not created.

oh and it's free which is a plus

Well, I would really like to create forms. Just once in a while so I don't think I should buy Adobe for a form in every half a year...
-
OK, so it will be OpenOffice.
Damn... I should have looked earlier. Inserting a text field...
