Hi I used the "pipe along path" ruby to make square tubes.

I want to design a few square tube truss bridges and I would like the tube to have the flat edge up and down no matter which way (direction) I draw a line. Right now the pipe along path places the edge of the tube up.

Is there another ruby for this somewhere? Am I doing it wrong....

      thanks!

      Stuart

You might be better drawing the path then placing a square at the end of it (angle it perpendicular to the start of the path) then use Follow Me. The bonus is that you'll end up with fewer faces, as only the top and bottom surfaces will be segmented in following the path.

follow me would make it easy though. [just in case you don't already know this, you can use follow me in the same way you use tube path. First select the path you'd like to follow Then choose the follow me tool.. click on the face you want along the path and it will happen automatically.. read: you don't have to manually drag the face along the whole path]

to make it even easier, get this ruby
            http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=17396&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=perpendicular+face

it's a chris fullmer plugin that will draw the square perpendicular to the path regardless of the line's orientation [but i do suggest trying to get that square in position manually at least once so you can appreciate how good the ruby is πŸ˜„]

            anyway...
            -draw your path
-select perpendicular square tool and click on the end of your path
-before doing anything else, enter the width of the tube in the dimension box and the square will be drawn at the correct size
-explode the group (the perp face will be grouped so you have to explode it prior to followmeing)
            -select the path
            -choose follow me tool
            -click on the square's face
            done

[and it took me about 12x longer to type those instructions than to actually do it]

ExtrudeAlongTube = Rectangular Face to your size, related to path in various ways.
TubeAlongPath = Circle or Polygon - vary size and sides etc.
PipeAlongPath = Circle with hollow center - vary size and sides etc.

are all of those actually written?

now i feel like i'm giving tall bridge guy the long way out πŸ˜† 😳

Thanks, I tried the "extrude along path" and that seemed to work great!

                  Thanks everybody!
