Oscarlok released a boolen plugin (which is free) however it has stuck in its beta version and does not always work as expected:

Hey I like this plugins a lot !
How many times did I have to trim the start and end of shapes done with Follow Me.

Btw, If you do not end up with a smooth shape even when asked for, just unhide Hidden Geometry, unsoften one edge and then soften it again. All edges are now smooth.

With v2.0 it's been renamed as 'extrudeEdgesByLathe' - it's been deBabelized and appears on a combined Toolbar - 'Extrusion Tools', plus various minor tweaks...
