[Plugin][$] RoundCorner - v3.4a - 31 Mar 24

The problem comes from the fact that the setup of the Mac system prevents to create files in the Sketchup Plugins directory and sub-directories from a program.
Really? ... I think I have to check my plugins. Think Selection Toys tries to do this. -
I'm joining the fan club Fredo... Excellent work.

I'm unable to access the RoundCorner tool in SU8 with a 'Limited' User account.
I did not have this issue in SU7 using this same 'Limited' User account. Also in contrast, the Curviloft tool opens without issue in SU8 using the same 'Limited' User account.
If I change the 'Limited' account to an 'Administrator' account the RoundCorner tool opens without issue.
I tried a new download and overwrite extraction of the RoundCorner tool and LibFredo6.rb just for grins to see if there was any change, but there was none. Also, SU7 has been removed so I know it's being extracted into the SU8 plugin directory.
I'd rather not have to log in to the 'Administrator' account in order to use the 'RoundCorner' tool.
Any suggestions or work-arounds would be appreciated. Using XP Home SP3.

In general, it is recommended to have those permissions to create and write files in the SU plugin folder and subfolders.
-
to store updates to default parameters (they are normally in the DEFPARAM_Dir folder). In the case of RoundCorner, all parameters are saved across sessions in file RoundCorner.def in that folder
-
For traces when applicable.
-
For other purposes.
On Vista and Windows 7, you may even have problems with security access when you update the plugin, due to the convoluted way Windows manages security for files.
I will however publish a version without traces (or ask the user where to put them)

NEW RELEASE: RoundCorner 2.2c- 23 Feb 11
This release deactivates the traces that were not necessary and could cause problems when the user does not have all write permissions in the SU Plugins directory.
There is no functional evolution compared with 2.2aPlease see main post for download

Ok, so I have to wait for the next release?
I am sorry but I am not using Windows anymore -)
I was used to work with sketchup 7 and the round corner plugin without any problems.I have download and install curviloft, it works really fine and quick.
I have retry roundcorner, still having the same problem.thanks fredo
Then, it would be helpful if other Mac users could tell if they have similar performance issues.

Hi Fredo,
I would really love to use your plugin, but am having similar problems involving the round corner plugin being very slow to load, selecting edges/faces, executing and using the RC interface. When I open the RC tool palette, SU and the entire computer slows considerably. The cursor freezes and I am unable to select out of the SU program and I am unable to use the cursor to select options in the RC or SU tool palette. This occurs regardless of how complex the geometry is i.e. box, or multifaceted solid. Permissions are set to read & write in the plugins folder on the Mac HD. I've browsed this thread, but don't know if this issue has been resolved yet. Thanks for your help.
DETAILS:
Mac OS 10.6.4, Intel Core i7
Round Corner 2.2c and LibFredo6 loaded in plugins folderBest.

Chromecatz,
No progress so far, because I cannot reproduce the problem.
Could you drop the two attached files into the ROUNDCORNER_Dir_22 folder, then, after restarting Sketchup, exercise one the laynch of the plugin, the selection of edges and the generation of geometry.
RoundCorner_Tool.rb
RoundCorner_Algo.rbAlso, could you have the Ruby console open during this process, just in case you would see a message.
There is a trace file generated, FredoTraceRoundCorner.txt in the SU Plugin directory. Could you post it back or send it by PM.
Thanks very much.

Tikva,
I had a look at the model and now understand what happens.
The offset border (in green) on the large face must cross an edge which is contiguous to the main edge (in red) at its extremity in order to be prolonged.
This is the case if the offset is small enough:
However, if the offset is larger, then there is NO intersection of the green border with an edge which is contiguous to the red edge you want to round. In this case, RoundCorner simply defaults to terminating the offset border at the orthogonal projection of the edge to round.
I can try to do something about it, but anyway, it will create problems on the shape which have no easy solution. You may want to redraw the shaping so that you arrange the first edge on the curved part is longer than the offset.
As an alternative, you can try to use Subdivide and Smooth, which operates on a different approach and is less sensitive to the geometry of edge and faces.
