Keep what is 'cut' as simple as you can.
You can imaging that the process of cutting geometry and discarding some etc is very complex and prone to fail at every step.
SketchUp can't cope with very tiny geometry.
For example, its in-built accuracy could consider two points that are very very slightly different, as being coincident... and therefore it might not draw a line between them, although in reality a tiny line would be needed to complete an intersected 'cut' - thus it fails.
You can see this issue with the native intersect tool not making a perfect intersected outline it it's through a mesh that has tiny facets so parts of the intersected outline would be very small, and they don't get made. FollowMe will also fail to complete everything, say a very faceted pipe on a very tight radius bend, where some facets would be tiny and get omitted.
You will get tiny geometry from very faceted/triangulated surfaces, leaves, etc; so
If you are cutting very small geometry consider Scaling the whole model up by x100, cutting and then scaling down again. Very tiny geometry can exist but creating it can prove difficult. -
Thank you so much for the very quick reply, I have used the follow me extrude tool for hand railings so i will try either getting rid of them or placing the section plane away from them. Also I thought scaling the project down might have helped so I shall scale back up.
I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

I was having bug splat issues with SU Pro 8 as well. My model had quite a few groups and components but wasn't that large. After trying some of the suggestions here, putting the model into SU 7 (just the free version) to use Zorro worked. Then put it back in 8 to use SectionCutFace and V-ray render. Great plug-in (once it worked), thanks!

@Whaat: Hi there when try to cut using the section plane sketch up just crashes on me so i have no luck using this plugin.

Sharing some more details (image, model, ...) would help us to help you to solve this problem...

Can you elaborate? We can't tell what "isn't working" unless you describe it. Installation problems? Usage problems?
What doesn't work, what did you do, what did you expect to happen?
And what OS version, what SketchUp version, and any error messages?
Then we can help. -
HI
How to cut multi and nested cuts objects
All you need to do is to expode all groups and componets
It can't cut a group or componets
You can edit inside a group that all you can do with a groups or componets
don't edit outside the boundbox or edit aross a edit lines when cuttingdraw zorro aross to make cut
using CTRL to cut nest cuts interierI hope this helps someone

I am trying to render some sections of my model in sketch up that I have made. I am using (Zorro2 Beta) to slice my model at my section cut and the podium to render it. However, whenever I slice at my section I get a bug splat. I have tried several things and it just isn't working. HELPPPPP!!!!!

Zorro isn't God.
If your model has the slightest flakiness or especially if it is unnecessarily complex, it can crash.
Work on a copy.
First 'Purge' all unused things, using Model Info > Statistics
Also 'Fix' the model in case of unnoticed other issues...
Delete as much as you can that is entirely behind the cut-plane - as it isn't needed and will only add unnecessary extra load to the tool.
Ensure you have nothing 'straddling' the cut-plane that if cut would result in tiny bits of geometry - for example, a 3d tree with lots of leaves, or an intensely faceted seat should NOT straddle the cut-plane - they could result in the creation of unresolved tiny facets at the cut that will not form properly and potentially cause a crash [a known limitation of SketchUp and OpenGL]... -

Hi guys,
This plugin looks amazing and just what I need!
Many Thanks for sharing!
This is the first plugin ive installed, would someone please be able to help?
Ive downloaded the file and stored it in the google sketch up plugins file, now what do i do?
It does not appear in my sketch up under tools.
I tried clicking on the folder but I cant open it, my comp doesnt know which software to use to open it?Sorry if this is a really basic question.
Any help would be amazing!
Thanks in advance

What version of Windows are you using? It may be that you need to change permissions to the folder. Navigate to the Plugins folder, right click on it and choose Properties. Go to the Security tab and change permissions to allow everyone on the list 'full' access, then try installing the plugin into the Plugins folder again.

Hi Dave,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I am using windows 7 and google sketch up 8 pro.
I shall give what you have said a go now
-
Hi Dave,
Fantastic that has worked!! Thank you very much!!!
I am now going to try it out
-
Excellent! Good luck.

Hi guys,
So no luck, it crashed the program.
But I read back over older posts and it says to:
purge unused materials
fix problems
which I have doneI also read that this plugin doesnt work on components or groups of which I seem to have hundreds in my model
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to explode all the components in one go as my model is running slow anyway and doing it component by component is taking forever.
Many Thanks
-
If you want to explode the components, simply select them, right click on one and choose Explode. Keep in mind this could take a long time to complete with a large selection and you might find it safer to explode a few at a time. It might be that you don't need to explode all of them, either. You could just explode those through which Zorro will slice.
-
Hi Dave,
I deleted the main components and ones I thought zorro sliced through and gave that a go but still got a bug splat
But tested the plugin in a quick little model i made containing no componenets and it worked perfectly!!
So it seems I just have to continue with this evil mission of exploding the components.
I seemed to have gone on a component mission when I built this model as the model info says i have 6316 component instances and 225 component definitions which seems like an awful lot.
-
What are you modeling that you have that many components?
Of course one thing that might be driving the numbers up is nested components. You could take a look at the Outliner under the Window menu and check that out. It may be that even components that don't need to be exploded could tolerate having some of their child components exploded. Or maybe you need to explode those child components in the larger components on the cut line.
If you are going to be cutting the model with Zorro anyway, maybe you should delete components on the camera side of the cut line before running Zorro.
