I cannot say how many times I have mentioned that I want locking toolbars but here I go again...
Please! -

Photoshop and CAD for that matter have the ability to save profiles for different users. This would solve the issues of toolbars and also templates, and the profile could include Rubys as well.
It doesn't make sense if in my profile the toolbars are unlocked again

Its more of a seperate issue, but if you could take your work space with you, those who Hotdesk or travel to different offices would not have to spend 5 mins setting up the toolbars. If SU 7 had lockable toolbars and the profile system they would work together really well.

Bump.
I added a couple new ruby scripts today and what do you know... all my toolbars were flung all over my screen. And then I had to fix it all over again at home.
Please fix this Google. -

I made this video back in February. It gets less funny every time it happens. There's a lot of talk about V7 features, but if all it does is fix the toolbars, I'd be happy.

Been there, done that!

Another thing in regards to toolbars. Whenever I need for whatever reason to resize the SketchUp window, toolbar mayhem occurs. I wish they would not re arrange themself automatically. I prefer getting a drop down menu with the off-screen tools appearing instead as with many other application with toolbars.
This is another example where SketchUp tried to sort things out for you without actually succeeding. (Ref: http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=14839)

i found a way to lock my toobars on mac. i am not sure it works on windows.
- in a new file i enable all the extensions i want (sketchup-->preferences-->extensions), open the toolbars not open (view-->tool palettes) and place them where i want them to stay.
- then i save the file as a new template.
in my case, when i opened a new file only some of the toolbars opened, although they where in the right spot. if this is the case for you, go to the next step.
- open the template file directly (file-->open) from the templates folder.
- enable the toolbars that did not show up. save the file.
- open a new file (file-->new). all you toolbars should be there, on the correct spot too.

Now, start on the toolbar problem

Hi Ken,
We do have some bugs recorded regarding toolbar issues. But I want to make sure we have the issue you are talking about. Can you give a quick description of it? Or maybe add it to the Bugs section?
Thanks in advance,
Tricia

do you guys use SU?
the toolbars are crazy. their never in the same place twice, when you add or remove a plugin. they stack, restack, something left across the top (horizontal)will be at the bottom (vertical) the next time; you can group them logically and then they get spread-out. very frustrating to have to get used to a different (random)interface all the time. THere should be a way to lock them, or a .ini file to keep their positions or something.

The status bar no longer updates on the Mac. When performing actions on the Mac that show progress in the status bar (e.g. Sandbox actions), the status bar did not update. The status bar should now show progress for lengthy tool actions.
oh, nice.

i've also found that if I move the toolbars and then don't save before i exit it looses the position. And with all the scf toolbars i can't put more than one toolbar on a certain level. It just bumps them to different levels.
oh yeh and I'm sure that everyone wants the back button back on the component and material browser!!

http://sketchuptips.blogspot.com/2008/02/sketchup-annoyances-toolbars.html <- Excellent illustration of the problem- And if you should accidentally click the Restore button in the SU window title bar, the toolbars are scattered all over the place.
- If you add a new plugin which adds a new toolbar you risk it blowing up your entire toolbar setup.
- I can't seem to some free floating toolbar to remain free floating between sessions, they reattach themself to the top edge. (V-Ray toolbar)
- Freefloating toolbar's window are too small when you start up SU, it's like their size is initally calculated as if the icons where small. It restores itself when you click the toolbar though.

I dondt remember where i download it,but it working in SU 6!
Maybe working in 7 too!Budla

These last posts were split off from the "Latest release" topic.

Well I see the toolbar issue has been moved because it was not on subject. To me, that was the subject. I downloaded the new maintence release, approximately 15 minutes total to download and install. Fire up Sketchup and wham bam, ready not to use. So now I spend hours trying to get my drawing space back. Even now into the next day I am still fighting to get the tools bars back to position I had them before the upgrade.
This disorder happens everytime I load a new toolbar. My solution until now, which with this new release seems harder to get the toolbars into position, was to have any toolbar I thought I might ever need loaded and finally after much fuss getting them into some condensed position, without losing a great deal of drawing space and save the file as my template.
What I really want is to start off with the minimum toolbars, add what I need, subtract what I don't need, and not spend the next hours trying to get my drawing space back.

Hi Ken,
I can feel your pain. Do you thinkI loike rearranging my toolbars every time I install a new plugin or even if just resize my SU window? This should have obviously been fixed by now. Not in a way that they stay where you put them (that would be the minimum) but in a much more sophisticated way.
BUT I thinkit is obvious that with a simple maintenance release like this (when they generally fix some minor bugs mostly turned up by the big, main release only),this won't be solved.
Then what's new in the new release? Definitely not what is "not new"; a recurrent annoyance. That takes it OT and after almost a hole page going on about this, it needs to be split. The toolbar misery has it's own place - here.
