That makes sense...I was thinking the same thing when I looked at the frame intersections.

Oh well, manual manipulation it is...just like real hand-made welds!

A very, very cool technique for sure!

      Cheers,

Been on holiday, and haven't had much time since to spend working on this, but have had a little time this weekend to do some. As you can see from the second image the main elements of the frame are now done:

At the moment the file size for the frame is about 8.5 Mb
The front wheel is about 1.3 Mb (which the majority of can be reused for the rear wheel)

So at the moment in total the file size is about 9.8 Mb

Taking into account all the parts that are still to model, by the time I finish I wouldn't be surprised if by the end it is over 50 Mb

At the moment it is probably smaller than I would have expected.

I have since realised that what I thought were white lines are actually stitching, if I have time I might change the texture to show stitching instead, but for now I'm happy with it as it is.

Wow! This model so far is incredible! What would be awesome is instead of textures of stitching on the saddle, actual 3d stitches. 😲

I just love this kind of projects;-) really amazing work, and I like your attention to details, I am looking forward to seeing your update, just keep them coming;-) It is Friday, I am almost done with work, so I won't model anything this weekend, but you gave me a few pretty good ideas for the next week;-))

Cheers and keep it up 👍

That did cross my mind (and will probably try it at a later date!..)

In the meantime I've had a few minutes spare to model a brake disc rotor

You keep blowing my mind. As you can guess from my handle, I've spent a lot of time on bicycles and working on bicycles. (can't ride any more due to bad knees. 😠 😢 😞 )

Your model wants me to make up a custom lugged frame in SU. The brazers deserve some attention too.

This whole thing has been a tease. I wanna see the finished bike already! Haha, no rush though.

I would love too see the finished bike too!! When I first thought about doing this I hadn't really intended to go into quite so much detail as I have, but I don't really have enough spare time to do as much as I'd like to with this.

I'm glad I have gone into as much detail as I have, and I am determined to get this finished eventually!! but I will be glad when it's complete.

Just browsing the forum and noticed a recent reply to this...

It's a shame that I haven't done any work on this since my last update (as the dates are all wrong after the forum transfer I've no idea when that was - a few months at least!), but I just haven't had the time to do this or much other su work for that matter

Perhaps I will finish it one day...

                                      Hi there,

I can only be in admiration for this great modelizing work !!

Anyway, I dare be doubtful about using SU in this case ... I'm just a beginer using Sketchup but I'm originaly (long time ago) specialised in CAM (for Computer Aided MAnufacturing or Machining) operations (using CATIA and Applicon Bravo).
This modelizing work for assembly/conception is a common task using enhanced solutions, even some free solutions emerging from the free community (some say they're pretty much useable, but I never) ...
I think positionning, exploded view generation or assembly could be really painful using SU.

                                      Is my question relevant ??
