@L-i-am Great news! In the last months, I've been doing some renders with Lumen so it's really nice to have Twinmotion for free.

Cheers @alsomar, you can output 8K and if you tile render you can go all the way to 64, crazy:

Dang it, that also sends shock waves through the Rayscaper HQ (my attic) as well πŸ™‚

I guess it's time for austerity measures and skip that cookie for dessert.

Twinmotion is free from late April this year

      What's their business model?

@L-i-am said in Twinmotion is free from late April:

I know that D5 Render put at least 50 Million into its development

What's your source on this? I worked on Octane render, and OTOY had deep pockets, but this is on another level.

      Cheers,
      Thomas

Epic with unlimited Chinese cash is smashing competitors.
50 million sounds BS (even singaporean $)
@pixelcruncher wow, yet another Otoy employee builds a new renderer! Fstorm looks nice..

@rv1974 F-storm is great, and Andrey is a very talented artist/developer. There was this whole drama around F-storm that it was stolen Octane code but that seems to have died down.

Render engines are fun! So it’s not surprising that developers gravitate towards that.

edit: Is D5 Singaporean? For some reason I assumed Chinese. But seems their founder is US based now. Great product, and an inspiration for me.

@rv1974 not following here, is that a positive or negative statement about Karba?

@pixelcruncher no judgments, just pure fact: Karba in Otoy apparently led to a HUGE headache for Jules

I am pretty sure I saw 50M, big money. I was sure it was initially Singaporean with a big investor from China. Main office is in mainland ChinaD5 render.png

@rv1974 I'm not privy to those details... But I worked alongside him and Jules for several years and never saw any friction.

@pixelcruncher Now, the only downside with TM is that you need a high end graphics card with a minimum of 8GB and that is starting level. Business model is if your Company earn more that 1M a year you pay 425USD per seat.+ royalties I think. I am thinking, perhaps this move is to kill D5 and make twinmotion, epic games, reality capture, unreal engine industry standard, if everyone would start with Twinmotion, pretty bold move. Would not be surprised if they buy out or licence a modelling programπŸ˜‰ or develop there own, but I am just guessing.

If that is their strategy, then that is a pretty bold move. Why the focus on D5, though? Other engines like Enscape and VRAY, both owned by the Chaos group, have a pretty big market share among them as well.

It looks like Epic Games is a 32B $ company (source ), I never knew that. I'm pretty sure neither D5's holding company nor Chaos Group comes close to this. So Epic can throw their weight around a bit.

Agreed mate. Because D5 and Tm were in a race to the top. Maximum acceleration in development and in direct competition. Vray is more expensive, enscape is not so realistic and Lumion,is crazy expensive. My money is on TM.

Epic makes such good acquisitions then immediately lowers prices. Reality Capture is free is you are under 1mil in revenue. It's safe to say that's the majority of the users.

The have repeated this price lowering for every acquisition. They'll be #1 player in visualisation eventually. I wouldn't be surprised if they launched a modelling environment at some point too.
