They might do so. The might not. If that's what you expect will happen you could choose not to upgrade to the current version and forego any future upgrades, or use alternative extensions, or write your own extensions.
According to your forum profile you are stillusing SketchUp 2016. If that's the case you can use the old legacy versions of Fredo6's extensions. They are still available at no charge.
Thanks for the suggestion but I am using SketchUp 2017. I looked at the legacy version of Round Corner and it says I should not use it for Sketchup 2017.

per·pet·u·al
a: continuing forever : EVERLASTING
b: valid for all timeThat is the term Fredo applies to his licenses. Also the archived versions remain free just not maintained.
Maintaining extensions to work across many versions of SketchUp is time-consuming and in some cases impossible.
The issue is not the maintenance of extensions because I am talking about older extensions.
For example, Round Corner was free in 2017. That same version is now no longer free. And the archived version says it cannot be used on Sketchup 2017. -
Not sure how I can help you if I'm honest. Are you looking for help? Or just venting?

Your profile says you are using SketchUp 2016 Pro. Evidently you need to update your profile.
If you aren't interested in compensating Fredo6 for his hard work at keeping his extensions current, a very small investment, don't update. Keep using the older free version. It's your choice.

Thanks for your suggestion. However, as I said the free version of the plugin is now asking for money. I am not in need of a maintained plugin that works with current versions of Sketchup, I only need the original plugin that was offered for free to keep functioning.

Yes, help would certainly be appreciated. Do you know of a way to ensure the free version of Round Corner remains functional in Sketchup 2017? Thanks.

The old free version of Round Corner won't change and neither will SketchUp 2017 so it you don't update the extension there's no reason to expect it to stop functioning. Your profile indicates you are using a Mac. Since you aren't insterested in updating SketchUp you'd best not update the Mac OS. Many users are reporting that older versions of SketchUp don't work on the newer Mac OS versions.
Fix your profile already.

Unfortunately in my case the old free version of Round Corner has decided it is no longer free. Other users have reported the same. Perhaps it is to do with updating the shared library the plugins use. As for Sketchup, the 2017 version works fine on Catalina thankfully and I do not plan to upgrade further. And no need to "fix my profile" since I have another machine with Sketchup 2016, but thanks for the suggestion.

Well, sorry, I guess we can't do anything further for you.

I guess you shouldn't have done that.

I guess not. Clever Fredo.

As I wrote before, you are certainly welcome to find other extensions to use instead of Fredo's or write your own. Fredo has put in a lot of work to make and improve his extensions. You've benefitted from that work, too. The price of the Round Corner extension license is a trivial amount. If your time is worth anything at all, I'm sure Round Corner has saved you enough time already to have more than paid for it.

Absolutely. Fredo's extensions have helped masses of people and he deserves to make money from his new and updated extensions now that he has decided to charge. But I'm not alone in thinking old extensions for old versions of Sketchup that were offered for free at the time should not have their functionality removed.

It's what it is. Write your own extensions and then you won't have to deal with it.

Great idea Dave, hadn't thought of that. Should I charge or offer them for free?
Well I guess I can always change my mind down the road. -

It doesn't matter to me. If you write an extension that saves me substantial amount of time I would be willing to pay for it. I'm not against paying others for their good work. I guess you do your work for free and think others should do the same.

I don't know of a way to do that without a willingness to learn ruby to a very advanced level.
BTW Fredo's tools were never free. They were donationware which is a form of licensing model. TIG uses it, SamuelT uses it, Thomthom uses it....I could go on.
Feel free to vent your displeasure. But expect to be met with equal displeasure from users who support Fredo's, and others, move to a commercial model.

That's completely untrue. They were free. In the code it even says "Permission to use this software for any purpose and without fee is hereby granted"
I'm perfectly calm, it's you that comes across a little hostile. You're free act like that, but try not to spread false information while doing so. -
A look at the repo here will show which authors use donationware and which don't...

Not sure how you derived hostility from what I wrote? The only thing that's bothering me at the moment is fuel and energy prices.

I think it was Socrates that first said something along the lines of, give it to them free and they will complain forever, make them pay and they'll defend you forever.
Free is free, free now is now, things change and rightly so.
The part of this I find most odd is that someone could spend a whole day on it.
The forum guidelines unfortunately stop me from saying what I would like to say.
Good luck to you and your infinite freebee world. -

Good luck to you and your infinite freebee world.I think Socrates would have objected if he had been given something for free and then it was taken back from him. Any reasonable person would.
