Using PushPull on Objects Inside a Group
-
Just saying Joint pushpull 'plays up' doesn't help us help you.
It tells us something is going wrong but not what and the what could be many things.
And without knowing what is going wrong we can't suggest a different plugin because we don't know what it is you want to achieve and why JPP isn't doing it for you. -
I cannot be precise because the problems with the behaviour vary so much. The plugin may work for a while then without any reason the results are unexpected, even when using the same tool.
I have been using the plugin on and off for many years and now trying to find alternative options.
Anyway, now back to my original question.

I don't know of any other extensions that do what Fredo6's Joint Push/Pull does.
Maybe the next time you run into the issue you could share the .skp file someone, maybe Fredo6, can look and try to help identify the problem.

Thanks Dave

Personally I don't think it is acceptable to effectively disparage someones extensions with offhand dismissive comments.
I know they work, I know people fail to make them work because they don't use them as they were designed to work.
We can help you make them work, but ... I guess it's not worth the effort. -

We can help you make them work, but ... I guess it's not worth the effort.I was NOT disparaging anyones work. I have used many of Fredo's fine plugins. As I mentioned clearly before, the problem is difficult to describe. Obviously I don't understand the intricacies of this plugin.
My post was not about Fredo's plugin. I mentioned it to say that I had already tried it.
Just a suggestion _ calm down and dont get your knickers in a knot. Only comment if you are helpful (as Dave was).

Anytime you push the limits of an extension and/or sketchup you will hit a ceiling.
When you hit the ceiling you navigate around it by breaking it up into more manageable chunks.
In most scenarios you will achieve a result just not as efficiently.

Thanks Rich.
One way that seems to work for me today was to program one of my mouse buttons to 'Double Click' function. Not elegant ... but its something.

Hey Seasdes,
Check out Curic's plugins. He has a lot of tools that will dig down into nested groups and allow you to edit without actually 'clicking' into the groups.I get bugsplats with everybody's plugins, including Curic & Fredo. It's just part of life if you're a sketchup user (and push it to it's limits). A lot of Curic's tools have become indispensable to me over the past couple years. And honestly, I think Sketchup would be pretty useless to me without Fredo6's plugins.
Look into Curic Drawing Tools.(DIO2,OI,Stretch,Extend). Neat stuff & really useful. You can copy edges, push/pull face and a lot of other functionality and options without even entering any groups or components and a lot without even exiting or re-entering the tool.
Also check out his free stuff. Many useful plugins there, too.
cheers

I bet his problem is defective geometry, he'd get similar bug splats with any other plugin

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm not getting bug splats.
I think that I have found one of the reasons why I get undesirable results. Don't select the object before using Joint PushPull.
