      My question is:

Is there a plug-in or some other way to turn a section cut line into an actual, selectable line? I would like to take a topography line from a section cut and copy it without having to trace over it.

I'm sure I'm probably just missing something very simple to do this, no?

      Please advise.

      Thanks,

      Joel

Yes. You are missing something very simple. Right click on the section plane and choose Create group from slice. No plugin required.

          Select the Section-Plane.
Use the context-menu > Create Group from Slice...
Or to add faces, consider using my own SectionCutFace tool with settings to keep/show edges... or look at the even more comprehensive Skalp...
Edit the resultant group to access the new edges...
[I already gave this reply to you earlier on another forum... next time it might be best to ask here, or there, to avoid duplication...]

            Tig,

You should save that response as a template. It's as streamlined as can be and fits perfectly for a lot of section related stuff...
