      Hi,
Im having some problems with SU crashing when moving items. Cant see any pattern - just seems to crash when moving an item. Seem to get this with every file and it happens several times a day.
Anyone else had this or know of a solution?
      Thanks
      Sam

I've never seen that happen. Have you checked validity of the model? Is there hidden but connected geometry attached to the thing you're moving? Could you be more specific about what you're moving when the crash occurs? Are you sending detailed Bug Splats when the crashes occur? Have you confirmed that the problem isn't related to some plugin?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but how can I check if the problem is with a plugin?

Im moving components when the crashes happen, sometime within groups sometimes groups of components, sometimes just components on their own. Crashes seem pretty indescrimimate.

Will capture a crash log next time I get one...

One way would be to first change the name of the Plugins folder under User/App Data... to maybe "Old Plugins" and restart sketchUp. Since it appears we are talking about SU2015, (It's confusing because your signature line and profile show different versions) SketchUp will create a new Plugins folder when it starts and add only native plugins.

Try the things that made SU crash. If you don't get the crash, try adding plugins back a couple at a time, restart SU and see what happens.

IF you have the SCF Plugin, you can also disable and enable plugins using it.

Perhaps its some oddball plugin that is poorly written or needs updating or maybe there are a couple that are conflicting.

Are these components ones you've drawn yourself or downloaded from somewhere else?

If you haven't been doing so, you should always send Bug Splat reports when they occur. It's the primary way that the SketchUp team gets useful information about issues.

Do you happen to have the plugin SuSolid?

No - but there is one that I added recently (Bill Of Materials - BG Sketchup). Have just tried disabling it to see if I still get the crashes....

Thanks Dave R - will keep an eye on it. Am I able to give the plugin author any info relating to the crashes? The components are ones I have made myself but I have been using them for a long time (5 - 6 years) and have never had any problems with them before.

The author might have contact info in the header of the .rb file in the Plugins folder of, if there's an associated directory there might be a txt file.

I've seen a thread where they have tracked it to a situation where when SuSolid does something and if SU does something at the same time it will crash. So it's sort of a bug in each and both are changing things to avoid it in future. It may be that you have found another plugin that conflicts in the same way.

The author of the 'BG' plugins series is Inteloide.
You can PM him at SCF...[last here three days ago]

SUsolid has an issue if AutoSave is enabled.
It has a poorly formed observer which ill-advisedly does an model.abort_operation in some circumstances when the model is saved, so this clashes with the AutoSave and then SketchUp crashes. The observer is attached to the Model and runs continuously, it ought to be only attached while the SUsolid tool is active, and/or the abort should be reconsidered/recast.
Its author knows of the issue and I understand that he has a fix - a new version should be available shortly...
Meanwhile if you must use SUsolid, please switch off AutoSave if it is loaded.
However, I recommend that you use the SCF Plugins Manager to disable it and load it per session as you need it [Orange button]...

Thanks all for your responses. Will run SU for the rest of the day and see if it resolves the crashes and will then contact Inteloid. Been in touch with him a few times regarding BOM plugin.
                          Cheers

In a good way! Thought this sounded a little negative. Inteloide helped me out a lot with the BOM plugin... for the record! 😄
