2015 Default Image Editor not working

I use two programs for editing textures in SU.
For the more complex editing I use Photoshop CS5, but for most editing I use Microsoft Digital Image Pro 9.
Well, some strange things are happening with 2015. I set it to use Digital Image Pro 9, but after I do the editing and click "SAVE", the texture in the model does not change. Tried it several times.
So I tried it with PS, and when it opens, the texture appears with the changes I made in Pro 9!. The changes do not appear in the model, but they do when I open them in PS.
Now, when I make a change in PS, and click on "SAVE", instead of making the change in the model, it asks me where I want to save the changed image. If it asks me that, it's not going to save it back to the model.
Hope this makes sense.
Any suggestions? Anybody else experiencing problems in this area with 2015? -
Ok, did some more experimenting with this.
First off, the Microsoft program is Microsoft Picture It 9, not Microsoft Digital Image Pro 9. Got them confused.
Anyhow, I finally figured out why the changed texture was not showing up in the model after I hit "SAVE". For some reason I have to actually close the program after I hit save, then it does show up in the model. Never had to do this before, and it will be a real pain when I want to see how the changes look, and then do some more editing and save them and see how that looks, etc. I won't be able to just step backward in the program and undo some of the changes, and if I have cut and pasted some parts and pieces and want to see how that looks I cannot just make some more changes and save again to check it out. A real pain.
And as far as the problem saving the altered texture in PS, for some reason I had changed the image from Background to Layer, and that prevented me from just saving it back to the model. So I guess PS works ok with 2015.
I know this is probably confusing, sorry about that.
I really need to be able to use the Microsoft program, without having to close it each time I want to save the texture back to the model. This will have a huge impact on my abilities to work with textures. And I use a lot of textures.

Maybe the image editing program needs to be 64bit?

Works fine for me with 64bit Gimp.
I temporarily changed it to a 32bit image editor and that worked OK too !

Gave up getting Picture it to work with 2015 (it's a really old program), did some searching on the web and decided to give Paint.net a try. Unfortunately after installing I could no longer connect to the web by clicking on a link in an email or a downloaded web site, so I finally figured out that I needed to use the Windows Uninstaller to repair the .Net Framework 4.5.2 that was installed with the program. Now everything seems to work, including being able to edit textures in 2014.
While PS is a great program, it takes too long to load and some of it's functions are (IMO) unnecessarily convoluted. For most of my work a simpler program just makes more sense.

I also used to use PictureIt and liked it.
I made the switch long ago to Paint.Net and love it. It's quick powerful and easy to use.
Drawback is that it does not do icon or cursor files, but Gimp will.

Yeah, it was great for doing a lot of relatively simple things. I haven't had time to play with Paint.net yet but I think it will do nicely for what I have to do. I never work with icons or cursor files so that is not a factor for me.
And for some reason when I installed it on my laptop I didn't have that .Net Framework problem.

The biggest drawback to Gimp, according to what I've read on the web, is it's somewhat steep learning curve compared to other free programs. And I'm sure it's much more powerful than Paint.net, but I don't need a powerful program for most of my texture editing needs. And if I do, I just use PS. So I think I'm covered now (until my next problem, then I'll be back here on the forums crying and begging for help

If you can use Photoshop you can use Gimp. I don't do anything really crazy in those type of programs, you might... Give it a try and see what you think.

Now something really weird is happening.
While I no longer use Picture It as my default image editor in 2015, I figured I would still use it to to create and work with some of my textures, then just import them into the model. BUT....
Whenever I try this, I get the following error msg
This happens whether I save the image as a JPG or PNG.And it gets weirder - if I take that same image and open it in PS, then just resave it, it imports into 2015 just fine.
I'm getting the feeling that Rod Serling is in the next room filming all this

Well, thought I'd give it a shot.
I've ordered a new MB, graphics card and CPU, they will be here Tue, so that, along with a fresh OS install, will hopefully bring everything up to snuff with 2015.

It's not just to get 2015 working right, the computer has developed other problems as well. Actually just a fresh OS install and new graphics card would probably have done the trick, but my MB is getting old and, well, I just wanted a six-core CPU

All my gear is getting pretty old... like 3-4 years?
Asrock MB P67 Extreme4
i5 2500k overclocked to 5ghz
(2) Water cooled, overclocked GTX470's in sli. -
I've never overclocked any of my gear. Not sure why, just never seemed worth the trouble, and I don't do any gaming.

I tend to buy mid range gear and then overclock it to try and squeeze every bit of performance out of it that I can. with the processor I got another 1.7ghz out of it. On the graphics cards they come as 607mhz and I have them running at 800mhz. People say it shortens life span and such, but I've never experienced that and I've been overclocking for a long time. Having all of your system protections in place and watercooling seems to minimize any damage...
