[Plugin] Zorro2 (beta)
-
Hi Dave,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I am using windows 7 and google sketch up 8 pro.
I shall give what you have said a go now
-
Hi Dave,
Fantastic that has worked!! Thank you very much!!!
I am now going to try it out
-
Excellent! Good luck.

Hi guys,
So no luck, it crashed the program.
But I read back over older posts and it says to:
purge unused materials
fix problems
which I have doneI also read that this plugin doesnt work on components or groups of which I seem to have hundreds in my model
I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to explode all the components in one go as my model is running slow anyway and doing it component by component is taking forever.
Many Thanks
-
If you want to explode the components, simply select them, right click on one and choose Explode. Keep in mind this could take a long time to complete with a large selection and you might find it safer to explode a few at a time. It might be that you don't need to explode all of them, either. You could just explode those through which Zorro will slice.
-
Hi Dave,
I deleted the main components and ones I thought zorro sliced through and gave that a go but still got a bug splat
But tested the plugin in a quick little model i made containing no componenets and it worked perfectly!!
So it seems I just have to continue with this evil mission of exploding the components.
I seemed to have gone on a component mission when I built this model as the model info says i have 6316 component instances and 225 component definitions which seems like an awful lot.

What are you modeling that you have that many components?
Of course one thing that might be driving the numbers up is nested components. You could take a look at the Outliner under the Window menu and check that out. It may be that even components that don't need to be exploded could tolerate having some of their child components exploded. Or maybe you need to explode those child components in the larger components on the cut line.
If you are going to be cutting the model with Zorro anyway, maybe you should delete components on the camera side of the cut line before running Zorro.

It’s a vaulted ceiling church renovated into a shop.
I think the clothing and small details I added to the shop mainly from Google warehouse have upped the component amount.
Also I created all the different areas in small pieces, made each bit as an individual component then joined the pieces to make more components. Bit component happy lol I never knew I would later have to delete them. Is this what you mean by “nesting”?
That’s a really good idea to delete the stuff on the side that Zorro will be cutting, as the shop is symmetrical so that should half the amount of components

It might help to think about components like this:
A simple component consists of some edges and faces. When you make a component (or a group, for that matter), it's like you've wrapped those edges and faces in clear cellophane wrap. As you know, to make changes to the component you must first open the component for editing. You're opening the wrapper to gain access to the edges and faces inside. Now suppose you take several components and wrap them up in a larger wrapper. You now have a nested component.

Cannot figure this plugin out, it crashes everytime I try to make a cut.
It works on simple geometry (a box) but with a reasonably detailed model it fails and I'm given the bug splat report.I'm using SU13 and I've tried ungrouping all elements within the model, still no luck.
Any ideas guys?

Did you try to scale the model up before using the plugin?
-
Here is my solution for getting no bugsplat whatsoever and with all my models : triangulating all the faces.
To do this the quickest way, I export the model as a 3DS model whith these options ticked to keep a good UV mapping :
- Export Full hierarchy
- Export two-sided faces
- Export Texture Maps
- Favor Preserving Texture Coordinates
Then I import it back whith merge coplanar faces unticked (very important because it would suppress all triangulation done while exporting !!!)
To get rid of all the unnecessary edges visually, I use ThomThom's CleanUp plugin with once more merge coplanar faces unticked but whith option smooth edge by angle raised to 20%.
Then I use Zorro2 and cut and cut and cut and never get any bugsplat anymore........
Hope this help!
I would like to thank a million times all the ruby coders for their unvaluable work! -
The 'free hand' zorro cut tool works well for me, but I get an instant bugsplat when I try to use the section plane to cut the model - even if it's a simple 6 sided box.
Even tried babak's workflow above but am experiencing the same problem. I'm on SUpro 2013.
Anyone experiencing the same thing?

YOU ARE AN AMAZING HUMAN BEING.
-
thanks so much!
-
may i ask why the plugin result on a bugsplat when i try to cut it by zorro?? is there anybody can help me to this? hope for your help thank you

Zorro isn't invincible.
You can try and remove parts of the model you don't need before running it.
Also don't try to cut very small complex geometry link plants because this can result in tiny geometry that fails, as well as taking ages to do...
Give Zorro a chance and it will work...
How complex is what you are hoping to cut ?
Have you firstly deleted hidden entities, purged the model and fixed-problems etc... -
wa~~~~~~~~THANK YOU!, will definitely give this awesome plugin a try!

I am trying to install the plugin for Zorro2 on my Mac book OSX for Sketchup 2013, but when I click on the download link it keeps showing in my 'Downloads' folder as a plain text file. Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance! -
Hi.
I guess it happened to others too, but this plugin makes crash my sketchup when used in large models ( >20Mo) sketchup freezes with the message " Making unique components and deleting groups and components behind section plane"
how can I help sketchup to slice the model ? If I explode all components, will it change anything ?thanks
