OSX Yosemite is coming...Problems?
-
I believe that the outliner crash only happens if there are "hidden" components/groups.

Weird, but at least you got it sorted. Thanks for the update

Maximize in Yosemite can be controlled: Click the green button and you'll get OS X Fullscreen mode on any app, by default. If you hold down Option while clicking the green button, you get the more familiar Maximize window, while leaving the Menus visible.
hmm.. are you sure about that?
my understanding is that the full screen icon which used to be at the top right has been moved to the green button.. if you push option, it changes to the old + (zoom)..
but, the application needs to be coded as a full screen application in order for it to go full screen.. sketchup isn't a full screen app..
or are you saying that you can make sketchup full screen? (john's example doesn't count.. he's a tinkerer ) -

I'm going to tread softly with regard to upgrading to Yosemite until all the wrinkles are ironed out.
remember apple started doing a public beta with the operating system this year.. so a lot of the wrinkles are already ironed out..
i welcome the public beta if they're going to continue doing yearly releases of the OS.. otherwise, it's wait til .2 or .3... then by that time, another 10.x release is almost ready

If your running SU v13, Yosemite, may create additional bugsplats as it no longer includes Ruby 1.8...
SU v13 does run, but some plugins that do call that directly may cause bugsplats...
so, update to v14 on Mavericks, get everything stable then switch to Yosemite...
or do both at the same time, it seems fairly stable.

There is an issue with 3DText and attempting to open the Fonts window...
Narrowed this down to simply trying to open the Font Dialog
Well, here, it did crash on first attempt, opening 2 debug windows asking for password ( I cancelled), but once SU reopened works fine. Could it be one of your font is bad ?
I had a problem customizing the top toolbar thought. I could not drag any element to it. Again quit and relaunch solved it.
But non-SU-native icons, i.e. icons of plugins, do not stay up there after quitting SU. Even after closing window and reopening.
update: I've tested SU for 1 1/2 hour and everything else seems ok, including my plugins.
update: Tested on my laptop, all is fine. (French version on both machines) -
SketchUp v2015 is Yosemite compatible, and noticeably faster...
Worth upgrading to both in my opinion...

Yessss !!! SU 2015 finally corrects the icons not sticking in the top toolbar !!
Transferred my plugins and only one load error; 3Dxconnexion (v.10-2-0_r1807). It's in the root Library. Maybe I did something wrong.

No it's a 32bit .bundle, so remove the bundle, it my work as I think it's 64bit by default...
or so you need to see if they have a special SU 64bit version available yet...

I read on SketchUp Community that 3DConnection have yet to release a Yosemite-compatible driver, but supposedly it is coming soon...

I hope so cause, although removing the .bundle does prevent the error message, the device is still not functional.

I had to buy a new mouse for Yosemite, but that's not quite the same thing...
do you use it with other 64bit programs?
i.e. do you have the regular mac driver installed?john
-
Well, yes. Is there another one than the regular OS X driver I mentioned earlier (v.10-2-0_r1807) ?
I'm using a Space Navigator. It works in Google earth, 64bit ?, I do not know.
Update: a new driver is available ; 3DxWareMac_v10-2-1_r1861.dmg -
I have the problem that I can't get SketchUp to open a "finder" style window on Yosemite. Sketchup 2015. Completely wiped the computer a week ago and did a clean install of Yosemite because the 2011 Macbook Pro was taking 5 minutes to boot up. Now SketchUp won't open a window to find textures, files to open, components to add to library... nothing without shutting down the program each time, and then I can only get ONE instance of a "finder" window to open before it hangs again. This didn't happen prior to the clean install, so I don't know if it was a function of the previous OS (Maverics, Lion, etc) being on the hard drive, or previous versions of SketchUp being there. It also crashed with every attempt at using a font outside of Arial for an extruded font today. I can't add textures, or open texture libraries. I can't add components from a library or open other libraries without quitting SketchUp and restarting each time. I've got the same issue with Layout. Can't insert a file because it won't open a "finder" window to locate it without closing the program and re-starting it. MADNESS!!!!

First have you tried relaunching 'Finder' [ Alt + Right Click 'Finder' in 'Dock']...
Is 'Finder' working from other Apps? i.e. try 'Preview' and any non-Apple app...
Is SU installed in the Default location? i.e. Applications folder
Was SU a 'fresh' download and install?
If you open SU, and then use menu 'File' >> 'Open', is that working?
We need to ascertain if it's Finder or SU that's failing...

F.W.I.W. , the 2011 macbook pros have a history of frying the logic board/ graphics cards. I know from personal experiance! I wonder if that issue could be contributing to your problems?
