Here's Steve Bell's (Eon) explanation in the Forum:

Let me try and explain in plain english
You can use content you create with Plant Factory Studio as you wish, be it FBX, OBJ or whatever format. But you are not allowed to hand over content to someone else. If you want to make plants for another company, you need Producer, and they need Producer too, because you are only allowed to hand over content in the .TPFP format.
You will be able to upgrade from Studio to Producer for $499, the difference in cost between the two versions.
BTW, we are not being creative with these terms. This is a rather standard policy in the high-end plant creation business.
That kind of says it's for your personal use only if you don't sell plants through Cornucopia.

Like saying, here is SU pro 2013, you can create anything you want but cannot share the model you create with anyone that has the free version only with people who own the pro version.

Please, don't give them any ideas...

lol
If I can use all the kool features, like hand drawing plants, and I can use them in my own renderings and models, and I can sell them on their website, and they are actually useable in SketchUp... then $495 wouldn't be sooo bad.
-
Having played a short while with the new version now...
The interface is somtimes slow.
You can "unsubdivide" a tree down to just triangles plus you can hide leaves and the outer branches so it could be used as a lowres proxy standin.
The branch/trunk connections look pretty good. -
What spec machine are you using?
-
Here at home I have a i7 with 8gb RAM and a GTX580 1,5 GB Graphics card.
Here are two very quick testrenders from Thea without much care for the materials.
They look a bit over saturated in my opinion.
Exported to 3ds and imported into Thea without any problems. Color maps were applied but clipmaps and bumpmaps had to be added by hand.
By the way..its super easy to create variations in Plant Factory.
Just click on the Dice symbol.Hmm, might be useful though...
-
I take it that it's 64 bit and multicore supported?
-
Its 64bit. Multicore I dont know.

Looks great Pixero, I would create all the maps, until it looks perfect then save as a mod file, make a low poly proxy and add to your Thea tree library.
I asked the question on both LumenRT and Tree factory forums if trees made in Tree factory can be used in LumenRT (with animation), yet to get an answer, do you know?
-
I read that all plants in LumenRT were made with Plant Factory but I don't know how they should be exported or in what format.

It seems it comes in five different flavors now.
Here is a comparison chart.
http://www.theplantfactory-tech.com/purchase/index.php#Chart -
So if you buy $199 for Vue Artists and CG Artists for $99 you get everything that's in CG Professionals for $300 instead of the $495 it's advertised at. save 3 plants. Hmmm?
$100 increments for maintenance on the top 3 systems... $100,$200 and $300.
Whoever priced this did it pictorially and not by any sense of cost and effect.

In the Designer, and Converter versions, plants can be exported for use in other software only as static meshes (will not animate such as responding to wind - I believe they will animate, however, in Vue). In the Artist version, plants cannot be exported. Also, in the Designer version there are more plants and plant components (for creating new plants).

If you ever get an answer to this question, please post it. I'm using LumenRT, too, and was wondering the same thing.

LumenRT 4 StudioNo, I'm afraid Plant Factory is still not compatible with LumenRT. Although LumenRT 4 plants were all created with Plant Factory, there is still a lot of work to be done to allow Plant Factory to export directly into something that LumenRT can use. But we're working on it

Thanks, Solo

A PLE version is available.
