Haha you were right about the case-sensitive vs insensitive. I'm not entirely sure how this happened but mine is case sensitive, which probably explains certain things.. I will try a clean reinstall of Snow Leopard one more time with the regular insensitive option and see if I have more luck. Looks like I'm in for the night. Again...

Before Snow Leopard, there were "receipts" that also needed to be removed. (Anything beginning with Google_SU7_ in the "/Library/Receipts" directory). By deleting SketchUp's receipts, you remove all prior knowledge of SketchUp from the Installer application, thereby ensuring it does a complete job of reinstallation when you run it again. Unfortunately, this mechanism was changed in Snow Leopard and receipts aren't used anymore. I read an article a couple of months ago indicating that there's now an installer database that has to be queried and cleared instead, but unfortunately, I've been so busy with other things that I have not had the opportunity to investigate the specific procedure myself. My guess is that you may need to clear the Google SketchUp package entries from the installer database when working with 10.6+.

those are all the files that you might want to trash prior to reinstalling sketchup.The receipt removal is not listed there. I will talk to our tech support about updating the article to reflect the receipts for 10.5 and older, and also with the Snow Leopard instructions once I determine exactly what they are. However, the article does a great job of pointing out everything ELSE you need to do to uninstall SketchUp from your Mac.
If I think of anything that will help, I'll be sure to let you know. Please keep us posted as to your progress.

Case solved!
Apparently the problem was the case-sensitive formatting of the hard drive. After formatting the hard drive and reinstalling Snow Leopard everything works brilliantly!

well that's good news and bad news..
the good news is sketchup is working properly for you now..
the bad news is that i now need to make 100 new wild guesses before one of them happens to be correct again -
I've just updated to Snow leopard (this morning), and so far I'm very impressed with the overall performance- compared with Leopard. I've also updated to the very latest SU7 build- which seems fine now. Even this website page displays properly!
What was I worrying about?

Hi folks, this is my first post to this forum...
I am new to sketchup and just purchased a license for pro 8.
My issue is related to this topic in that I am unable to install extensions/ruby scripts.
Here is a screen shot of the error message:
My operating system is OSX 10.6.8 (snow leopard), here is a screen shot of my disc settings:
Still no banana however...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I am not a computer wiz but I can follow instructions!

You forgot to tell us what it was you were trying to install, that generated the error-message...
Only RBZ archives can be auto-installed. ZIP and RB etc must be installed manually OR use thomthom's 'Simple Plugin Installer' tool, available from the Plugins index menu item above...
Do you have full security permissions [read/write] to the SketchUp plugins folder?
If not you can't add files into it...
Try changing those...The correct plugins folder is
Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Google Sketchup 8/Sketchup/plugins[NOT the 'user' one]You can run this line in the Ruby Console to double check that your installation is right:
Sketchup.find_support_file('ocean_extension.rb', 'plugins')- this .rb script is supplied with SketchUp and is [or should be!] in the correct folder... -

I had assumed that I did have read/write permissions for the plugins folder but had read only, now it works..
these things always seem so obvious when solved..
this forum just saved me from a lot more faffing around,

I have the same problem as oic above but I'm very new to this stuff and and have no idea how to verify if I have read and write permission? I ran : Sketchup.find_support_file('ocean_extension.rb', 'plugins') in the ruby console and yes my plugins are in the right place. I still get the same "unknown error" message when trying to load a .rb or .rbz file of any kind. I have tried many different plugins and I'm about to shoot myself in the face.
Please help soon.

The resetting of your MAC's plugins folder's permissions to FULL Read/Write has been covered many times in the forums...
