[Plugin] Hypocycloid Cam Profile Generator v1.0.0
Generate 2D profiles of hypocycloid cams for cycloid drives.
SEE wikipedia: Cycloidal Drive
This has nothing to do with curves made with the Spirograph toy !Translated into SketchUp Ruby, from Alex Lait's Python script
Aal_Hypocycloid_1_0_0.rbz
Git repository : Issues & Feature RequestsNotes:
Does not currently do ANY checking for sane input values and it
is possible to create un-machinable cams, use at your own risk.Suggestions:
- Eccentricity should not be more than the pin radius.
- Has not been tested with negative values, may have interesting results!
-
Time to google what hypocycloid means...sounds good!
-
Please post image on the first post of a plugin!
Does it this
or this ?
-
Ah that is something like this!
-
When I was a kid I remember having that toy!

I push-pulled the face up manually.
This plugin is for creating profiles for CNC routing machines that will cut the cam.

OK driven and I are planning to 3D-ize this plugin.
The old CNC dxf way is out of style. John wants to use SketchUp to have cams 3D Printed. So we'll be making new 3D features. (But we'll leave the 2D layers with the 2D profiles.)
