Differing scene timings
-
Hello again.
I suspect that my request is not currently possible, but I'll make it anyway because you lot are always full of surprises.
I know how to set the transition and pause timings in animations presently, but it would be brilliant if there was a way to have a custom setting for particular scenes (ie, scenes with lots of information that might require a 5 second pause, whereas the other scenes would usually have a pause time of 0 seconds). What would be the best way to achieve this?
NB: All I can think of is to use screen capture software and manually pause the animation at the relevant time - but this seems a bit haphazard

Look at Rick Wilson's tools on Smustard.com.
I think that I remember one that allows all sorts of adjustments in animations like different transition times between scenes etc.
This is achievable via the API but it's not available in the native-toolset.
I think he has some 'free' versions and modestly priced 'super' ones that you might need ?? -

Both the 'Scene Transition' time and the 'Scene Delay' time are for the entire model and throughout the complete animation of all scenes that are included.
If you set delay to zero, then you can play with extra camera locations on the path, to simulate slower transition between scenes.
Say going from A > B > C > you could add scenes B1 B2 B3 on path B > C to slow down on this traject. Resulting in A > B > B1 > B2 > B3 > C > D.However, if you do need some delay, this isn't such a goog idea. B1, B2 and B3 will also have that delay.
If you do nor care so much about transition bu want different delays, do so with extra scenes with the same camera position. Consider the set time as the minimum.
So the animation runs like A > B > B1 > B2 > C > D > D1 > D2 > D3 > D4 where B1 and B2 are copies of B. So are D1, D2 D3 and D4 copied scenes of D. B seems to delay 3x and D seems to delay 5x.You can't benefith from both solutions (different transitions AND different delay) in the same animation at the same time.
(edit) If you set delay to zero, you can still get variable delay time by adding extra scenes with the same camera location on the path. Trasition time betwee equal scenes more or less acts as the delay time for a certain scene.

Thanks Gai... I was being lazy

No worries - I have presentation bundle (on one of my broken hard drives ) so I remembered.
Good plugin bundle, too, although nowadays I do not do much animation inside native SU.

Thanks as always chaps. Gaieus, what do you use as an alternative to animating in SU?

Well, to be honest, I do not even model or render nowadays too much - but I have a pending job based in an EU bid and I would make the whole thing in Lumion3D. It has a completely different camera handling algorithm and though I often wish there were some tools to match SU scenes with Lumion scenes (which is not possible ATM) an animation (video) is much easier to make in Lumion than in SU (regarding smooth camera movements at least).
Of course, the rendered output is completely different, too.
