Axes help
-
I built a house model and then set the location and added the google image and terrain. I moved the house to match the terrain and then reset the axes of the house model. Now my model will not orient correctly when I use the standard view buttons. Can anyone tell me the simplest way to fix this, and what I should have done differently to avoid this? Thanks!

Reset the axes back to their normal location. You can right click on the origin and choose Reset.

So if I understand correctly, you set the axes to match the house (not "Reset" the axes as that would put the axes back to their original position). And that the case is that your house is not 100% aligned to the North therefore it's rotated a bit out of axis if you do not adjust the axes to match your building?
If that is the case, unfortunately you do not have much to do. The "standard views" are always aligned to the original world axes and no matter how you set the axes to match anything in the model (let's call this "working axes" as opposed to the "world axes"), you will always get the world axes as alignment.
There are workarounds like you can right click on a face in your house and select "align view" from the context menu or export the whole set-up as a component with its own, modified axes etc.
If you tell us some more about what you actually wish to accomplish, there may be more accurate suggestions.

Why not reset the axes to be the model axes [if needed]; ensure all layers are 'on', hidden-geometry is set 'on', and nothing is 'locked'.
Then edit>select-all and 'move' everything so the origin is logically placed - say at the bottom-left corner of the site or the building.
With everything still selected 'rotate' and set the major wall-lines of the building so that they are snapped to be axial.
Reset locking, hidden-geometry and layer visibility as desired.
Foe square on views of non-orthogonal wall elevations you can align as Dave described already.
Save the views as scene-tabs so you aren't forever redoing things unnecessarily...
You can set north using the Sketchup tools provided, so the green [y] axis does not need to be exactly 'north' [although logic says make it in a somewhat northward-like direction!], the orange north-marker can be set as desired off from the green [y] axis...
This should then give correct shadow results etc, when the building has been reset in 3d-space as described... -
ok, thank you for the explanations. I think I understand now. So just to clarify, the best workflow after importing google location and terrain would be to move the google earth and terrain to align with the house model. This will maintain the origin axes since you cannot reset the "world axes" only model axes.

Unless you need the very precise geolocation (say maybe to export the model back to GE), this can indeed be a solution.

So GeoLocation will be altered? No way to keep GeoLocation correct from GoogEarth and still get proper Standard View (Plan or Top View) alignment in SKP?

Standard views relate to the (original) world axes in SketchUp .- and a geolocated (and precisely positioned) model will very unlikely be aligned to true north/west/south/east - although it can happen.

Some tips about this topic maybe in the video linked here...

Brilliant Script by Mr. Fullmer. This Does the job exactly as needed. Thanks for the lead. I'll have to remember to "Save" the scene once Axes have been aligned with model if the Extended Standard Views is going to work.
Thanks again to "wind-borne" and CLF.
