General Sketchup File Usage

Hello all. When I am working on a Sketchup (V8 Pro)project I save a file to a different name for each day that I am working on a file. The file name has the date saved included in the name. This allows me to revert back to older files whenever designs revert back to older versions. However, I have been thinking whether this is the best method, especially when Xreffing and /or using Layout.
What methodology do others use out there?

I don't often save copies of my models because so far I've never needed to go back to something modeled on a certain date. So I don't use this method, but what I would recommend is to have a single model you always work on with the same name, and then when you save it at the end of the day, save your model regular, then also do a "Save a Copy As" option. That will keep it so your working model stays the exact same, but every day you can save a backup copy with the date and stuff in the filename.

If I issue drawings from my sketchup model and I make note of them (drawing issue sheet). If I then revise the model/drawings, I save as a revision. I wouldn't necessarily save a copy at the end of each day, only if revised after drawings have been issued.
So depending on the revisions, I might have several copies of the sketchup model in appropriate revision folders. I've just been finalising my proceedures for issuing sketchup drawings, jpeg exports, measured drawings, pdf's etc. as I'm starting to use sketchup more and more.

Find my 'Archive' tool... this adds an item to the File menu.

It is much like the native Save_Copy_As BUT saves without a dialog, a copy of the Model is put into a folder located with the Model SKP, named 'Archives', and it appends a date/time-stamp to the end of the Model's name.
Model.skp >>> Archives/Model[12-12-06_12-32-16].skp
You can assign a shortcut to it, and at any time just use it to make a 'backup' or 'archive' of the Model as it is at that instant.
With the files' date/time-stamps you can revert to any earlier version as desired... -
