Boulder newspaper spills the beans about Trimble future
-
I came across this eye opening article in the Daily Camera, a Boulder (Colorado) local paper, which quotes John Bacus (the SketchUp product manager) saying some pretty enlighteneing things - reading between the lines admittedly but just a little. Article link and link to my blog post.

Nice find Rob.
So lets play the speculation game...any guesses on what the 125K sf facility will be for? Think it has to do with Sketchup?
I'm guessing a manufacturing facility for a building of that size.
-
Perhaps to make their new 'SketchPad'...
Just the thing for 'on-site' use [or anywhere for that matter ] - to view/modify you SKPs/Layouts and other site/building related data...
-
Interesting...

I've no idea. Could it be the new Trimble HQ? If the project has "broken ground" already, would there be plans available on a town planning website - or does it only work like that in the UK?
Whatever else this is, it's certainly an indication that Trimble's serious about SketchUp.

There’s no point in acting surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display at your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for 50 of your Earth years, so you’ve had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it’s far too late to start making a fuss about it now.

@unknownuser said:Trimble Navigation will be breaking ground in Westminster this May for a permanent location for their business unit that handles agricultural and heavy construction vehicle GPS applications.
Trimble, with corporate headquarters in Sunnyvale, Calif., is a geographic positioning solutions business with products and applications that are used in engineering and construction, surveying, agriculture, fleet management and field service.
The agriculture and heavy construction division currently employs 362 workers, and expects to add another 125 workers by 2016.
A 125,000 square foot building in Westmoor Technology Park, near Wadsworth Parkway and 108th Avenue, is currently in plan review with the City of Westminster.
The 15-acre site the company has under contract also anticipates a possible second building in the next five years.
Trimble is considered a primary employer and is part of the software/IT industry cluster that has a dominant presence in Westminster and along the U.S. 36 corridor.

@unknownuser said:Silicon Valley’s Trimble Navigation, with a Colorado office in Westminster, broke ground this week on a new Trimble Rockies Campus at Westmoor Technology Park, northwest of 108th Avenue and Wadsworth Parkway.
Joining Westminster Mayor and other City Councillors at the groundbreaking ceremony held Monday, May 14, for the 125,000 square foot, four-story building was Governor John Hickenlooper, who has encouraged Trimble’s expanding presence in Colorado.
The Rockies Campus will focus on applications in the construction, surveying, agriculture, mapping and GIS markets.
Completion on the new campus is expected in May of 2013.
Which took place before the acquisition of Sketchup... -

About two weeks after I read the opening of the first book it occurred to me that a big yellow bulldozer had been parked in the nearby field for the last couple of months - facing our house. tin-foil-hat-looking-for-the-planning-office

HHGTTG fan here. Also passed the infection along to family members, offspring, and casual acquaintances.
The books are great, but the original radio broadcasts are even better. Most are available on CD, so probably as MP3 as well -

The infection is spreading as we speak...
