Wow, this is amazing. What are you using to do this... are you just using artisan to do this? Beautiful man.. this is just sick. I need to really look at Artisan now. You are an inspiration. Great work. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Thx a bunch for the compliments!

I'm mainly using Artisan, but also a lot 'Tools on surface', as for plugins.
But the most work is done with the move-tool with some fancy camerawork to get al them angels/flowing lines exactly right ๐Ÿ˜„
Patience is a must have for this one ๐Ÿ˜†

        Progress:
Finished all the nessecary work for a good render

        ToDo

        • Render Enviroment
        • Windowsprayers (?)
        • Wipers
        • Sunroof
        • Antenna
        • Logo
        • Detailed headlight
        • Detailed taillight

Prepping the model to export to TheaRender.
Also still have to come up with a good enviroment. An HDRI is a good way, but was also thinking about modeling an underground parkinglot with some nice, 'hard' lighting.
        Any advise on this one?

Had some time off the last couple of days and spent them fully on the model.
Finished nearly all the detailed stuff what you can see from the outside.

And then, setting up the rendermodel ๐Ÿ˜Ž
I thought building the car was a tough job, well, getting all the materials and lighting the way you want it (and I'm still a noob in rendering, so most of the time I don't even now what I want ๐Ÿ˜ณ )

                    Thx!

Tools on Surface is a free plugin and makes you draw lines on connected curved faces, wich makes it way more easy the the standard SU linetools. Check the topic, give it a quick search ๐Ÿ˜‰

When did I used it in my model?
To make detailed components on an object. E.g.: When I completed the general outline and shapes of the door, I used Tools on Surface the put in the doorhandle and -lock.

I would also strongly recommend to get the modelingbooks from Elisei, if you're thinking about picking up carmodeling ๐Ÿ˜‰

Let this project rest for a while, but tend to start soon on the interior as the standard interior is and then a race interior (rollcage, stripped, etc.).

                          Wow, another car modeler!!

Incredible work, well beyond my capabilities. I have a lot of problem getting the surfaces smooth enuf. I spend way too much time on that, and at best the results are only barely acceptable.

A question about Artisan -- you seem to go from about a zillion polys to a much more reasonable number, how do you do that? I have tried Artisan (without success) a number of times. If I could get it to work (without getting such a huge number of polys) it would help me enormously. The only thing I use it for nowadays is the Select Brush, which by itself is well worth the purchase price.

Also, on the same subject, how the heck do you get it to work on an object without affecting the edges of it, shrinking it all out of shape?

Please edumacate me, my mind is a void, fill it with knowledge ๐Ÿ˜’

                          Again, very nice work ๐Ÿ‘

Your problems with smoothing the surface/lines is not unknown to me. The only thing I can say on that subject: don't give up and try, try and try again. A 'bit' of patience is the only must have ๐Ÿ˜„

Did you tried the e-books from Elisei?
They help a great deal and brings alot of light in de darkened world of car-/organic modeling ๐Ÿ’ญ

                            ?

                            If so: I don't ๐Ÿ˜„
I build it all in the 'simple' style and SS it from time to time to check the progress and results and then undo (ctrl-z is your best friend ๐Ÿ˜„ )it.
Before EVERY SS action I save my file (save copy as...), cause you never now if SU may crash or not ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
I also make a variety of files with different functions, so they don't bite eachother. I.e. a file for building in simple meshes, a file for the SS'd parts and a file for the SS'd parts wich need altering like lowering/tilting/painting.

                            @unknownuser said:

Every line you want to become/stay an edge after SS, you dubbelline it ๐Ÿ˜‰

See pic below and look carefully at the edge from the cover and you'll see it's dubbellined.

                            http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8024/7513598718_7d3856cb4e_b.jpg

The closer the two lines are together, the sharper the edge will be.

Hope this filled a bit of void in that great thinking machine of yours ๐Ÿ˜„ and keeps you challenging using Artisan and become a great carmodeler โ—

You want more posts? I think we're just in awe! I don't know whether to be inspired or demoralised. ๐Ÿ˜† I keep trying to understand car modeling as I have a client in the automobile industry, but I never get very far. If I could model to even half this standard it would be helpful in my work. It's not actually that I don't understand the tutorials, it's that it gets so complicated that I lose my way. Its such a pleasure scrolling through your images of the process seeing how you tackle each part. You mention Elisei's book - did it help? Perhaps I should start reading. I ask pretty much the same questions as hellnbak, (particularly regarding getting a smooth finish). Incidently, hellnbak - fan of your work too... can't beleive you manage it without Artisan!

I highly recommend them! Elisei has a good/clean way of explaing by word and picture. It also comes with a video of the work, so you can see him doing it.

When you work and study by his tutorial, you will see you'll get grip of techniques en alter/improve them to your own style.
