[SOLVED] sketch up like a spy ??

SketchUp attempts to call back home every time it runs. I believe that you can get it to run when not connected to the internet, though. Nothing bad is happening when it does this, just letting the guys at home know you are running.

I just thought that it was pinging for updates, if any. And it is not necessarily alerting anyBODY, just the server.
I work(mostly play) mostly in Sketchup 7. I have v8, but that is if I download a .skp file from the Forum, occasionally if the poster happens to upload one in v8.

Much more than that is going on. If you want to see what is really going on run WireShark, Network Protocol Analyzer. I have not taken the time to track down all the IP addresses SU is communicating with but it will suprise you. One thing I noted it appears ,even though I have check for updates off, it still does ,but does not take any action.

Based on that info, you know this could get thick.

If you're worried about this, you could block SU access to the internet using your firewall.

Thank you all for your numerous responses.

I have stated that:

-SU tries to connect then it does not work because I no longer use it for 1 year,

• I disabled the automatic update but it continues.
• I still do not understand why, when SU is not used, it changes the keys to registry
• Mac1's remark makes me fear much
• As Mitcorb I think developers should answer
• I have blocked access in the firewall
• But I have no more confidence in SU especially as Google is known to use user information
• In conclusion I uninstall SU

NO they don't !
'FP' means a False Positive - that is, when it is connecting it's NOT Malware...
Google no longer own Sketchup anyway.
These brief connections appear to be simply 'checking-in' to see how many users have Sketchup installed and how many are actually using it...
Nothing devious or underhand...

You don't think that your ISP log all of your Internet-traffic or emails ?

I know that my ISP log all of my Internet-traffic or emails but these informations are not used for commercial approach
But always ...no response about the reason for which SU change keys in the registry

This question comes up now and again— usually right after someone like you installs some new system monitoring software I think we have some relevant documents in our Help Center. I can try to clarify here as well, if that helps.

SketchUp makes use of your system (including your network and registry) in a variety of useful ways. Rather than trying to itemize each one of them, perhaps you can point out specific concerns you'd like addressed. From the thread so far:

SketchUp accesses your network at launch: This could be any of a number of things. It could be the update service (SketchUp periodically checks for available updates), the activation logging service (SketchUp anonymously reports that it has been launched so we know how many people are using it) or it could be the licensing service checking for concurrent usage of you SketchUp Pro license. If you pick a particular event that is troubling you out of your firewall logs, I can clarify further.

SketchUp changes the registry: This, too, could be a number of different things. Remember that the Windows Registry was intended as a place where application developers could store various settings relevant to running their applications on a user's system. It should be expected that SketchUp makes changes to the registry. Again, if you pick out a particular troubling event from your log files, I can clarify further.

it's more clear, ( but was not easy to see if SU change only SU keys)
I have not observed any troubling , just the informatons in the log of my FW
