Dimension between point and edge
-
Planning a kitchen. Want to know how much space between the end of a cabinet and the end of the wall.
Dimension tool. Click on back corner of cabinet. Click on edge of wall. Shows distance, but it doesn't stick. Do I have to put an extra line in there so that Dimension has an endpoint to stick to? Seems kludgey

SUp dimensions use an 'edge' length or a distance between two 'vertices', so you DO need to add a line and dimension it or its ends [or something equivalent like a cpoint].
You can erase that temp line/cpoint afterwards and leave the dimension...
OR use Layout ? -
I imagine you are beginning from the top corner of the cabinet (thus a point) and going to the corner of the wall directly opposite (only an edge). SU looks for another point. Can you click a point at the top or bottom of the wall corner and pull the dimension back down to level?

Using the Tape Measure tool, click and drag from the start point to the end point to create a construction point. Use this construction point to dimension the space

Hi Sgbotsford, hi folks.
See this SU file for ideas.
