Component browser gone corrupt
-
Sketchup is really troubling me sometimes in the components browser, on clicking the down arrow drop down menu in it when I click components, it gets stuck. i.e. for e.g. if I have the landscape library opened and i want to go back to the architecture pack it won't show up. When I restart sketchup, it starts working fine. Looks like my system has a sketchup virus or somethin'. Scanned my pc thoroughly to find no malware, virus or anything.

Maybe try downloading SU again and choose to repair, Did you use a registry cleaner? maybe messed it up. Also tell what OS your using.

it's part of a known SU bug that has something to do with a combination of plugins. meaning it's not really sketchup's fault. it has something to do with some plugin or another or a combination of the two. if you save the file and re-open that will fix it or you can do my lil trick of selecting a sizable piece of geometry, cut it or copy it and then paste in place. this should bring it back. if you'll notice your right click menu is probably gone while you have this issue as well.

well as i mentioned when i restart sketchup this problem disappears. doing the trick of cutting and pasting doesnt bring the good behaviour of component browser back. I tried reinstalling, repairing sketchup but the problem persists. I used Ccleaner to clean my registry. My right click menu is working fine. However i've been noticing something since past few weeks, sketchup gives a bug splat when i close the window. i've saved my model and clicked closed, the window gets closed, i see the desktop wallpaper and i get a bug splat. when i restart sketchup, everything works fine.
I saw this problem when I was using windows xp sp3. [I was also facing strange behaviours from other softwares like photoshop welcome screen flashing for a moment and photoshop doesn't start].
but this problem [sketchup bug splat] reoccured yesterday only. It was frequent in xp sp3 32 bit version after which i formatted my drive, this problem is very rare in windows 7 32 bit. but it occurs. i guess it's my plugins that are causing this havoc. there hasn't been any sketchup virus isn't it

you should uninstall sketchup and move on to another program.

Or contact Google via submit report or directly. This would help others experiencing the same issues.
I'd also contact Microsoft as it maybe of interest to them.
If you need a contact email for either of those mentioned try a search on http://www.google.com it's currently not broken as I just checked.

My friends
There ain't no any alternative for 3d modeling for sketchup. SU is very user friendly you know. Besides, people at SCF are soo intelligent, helpful, genial like Krisidious to the point that they are always ready to help others. The fantastic job of quick rate of replies to the queries of this forum has been possible with people like Kris. So if I switch to anyother 3d making app, i will have to find other forum where I won't find people like Krisidious who are extremely kind and down to earth. So I'm not gonna uninstall SketchUp. I don't believe in escapist attitude. I fight the battle against all the hurdles that come in my life with determination and confidence. Success is doing ordinary things extraordinarily well. And if there are persons like Kris helping you out then no one can stop you from becoming successful.Quality questions create a quality life. Successful people ask better questions, and as a result, they get better answers. :enlight: -
that's it, make me feel like crap...

This happens to me often
I also am continually plagued with the right-click menu being greyed out. So I have to weed out the conflicting plugin(s).

It's not so much 'conflicting' plugins - just 'too many' plugins! -

Well, that's yourfault. You gurus make more and more incredible plugins, how can I resist
It would be really great if Google would make it possible to bring plugins in and out as needed (or provide an "on-the-fly" "active/inactive" mechanism).

I've seen this grayed out thing very often, but not the component browser. May I have the list of plugins that are the culprit?

It's not a 'culprit' plugin or two.
It's a result of the number of plugins you have loading - the context-menu etc can only support a certain number of 'commands' - if you exceed it by having hundreds of plugins vying for space it will 'gray-out'. This is a discussion about it AND even a plugin that tries to optimize 'command' usage http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=252413#p252413 . However its success will be limited if you have too many plugins loading - you can 'spring-clean' and disable the ones you never use that are contributing to the 'critical-mass' that's tipping you over the 'gray-out' limit - rename the little used .rb files with .TXT suffix, and then if you find later you want it to revert you can just remove the suffix and restart, OR to load it for that session only use 'load "xxxx.rb.TXT"
' in the Ruby Console - where 'xxxx' is the tool/script's name.
Note that if you have the latest version of your plugins then this will also help - a few scripts [including several of Fredo's] were found to contribute to this 'gray-out' issue by making 'duplicated' commands - as far as I know they have all be updated many months ago to avoid this contributory factor... Look through your Plugins and the Plugins Index to ensure you are up to date too...
