Sketchup 8 hangs and crashes on brand new iMac
-
Hi fellow SU users. I have been having problems with occasional spinning beachballs and also hangs and crashes using SU 8 on a new top of the line iMac I got back in June. Here are the specs:
3.4 GHZ intel Core i7 sandy bridge processor, 8 GB DDR3 RAM, 1GB 7200RMP HDD, AMD Radeon HD 6970M CPU with 2GB memory. Running Mac OS X 10.6.8
Why on earth am I having these sorts of problems with this machine. It screams on amost any other software? Is there some sort of incompatibility I'm unaware of between Google Sketch Up and Mac? When is Google going to update this thing....seems like forever since they released an update.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

I can't see why it should be crashing? Have you tried to repair the installation? Are the models heavy when this happens?
SU8 is not yet a year old so I dont understand your second point?

There are many MAC users who are successfully using v8 on lower spec MACs that this... so there must be something adrift with something specific to you - perhaps your SUp installation, the graphics card configuration for SUp, Sketchup's OpenGL preference settings, or perhaps with specific SKPs that cause you these problems [complex-geometry, excessive use of textures/images, very-large-size, very small or very large objects, objects far away from the SKP's origin or with insertion-point axes far away from the SKP's origin [this can be common with CAD imports], having unneeded-layers/texture-mode/xray-mode/shadows/fog/complex-styles/etc 'on' whilst orbiting etc, lack of 'purge-unused' or 'fix-problems' in Model Info etc etc]...
Version 8M1 is well under a year old and it is a pretty stable product on all OSs.

Do you have crash when closing a project window ? Or loading another Skp file ?
I have such crashes, it's minor for me, but since month I was sick about.
I send a mail to Google SketchUp team, and they send me a procedure to try to fix it. I will try these days and tell you about.
