Does anyone know what is causing an excessive "bounding" box on some component/model imports? In other words, the bounding box is far, far bigger than the model.

I'm sometimes getting it from both the Warehouse and even on some models I've created and then imported into my larger project.

I though it might be hidden stuff, but a thorough check reveals nothing.

      Thanks.

Have you checked it's axis location?

Yes, and that wasn't a problem for some models even though they were not close to the axis. It also happens when I use "origin" for import on some but not for others.

Under Windows > Model Info > Component have you 'Show Component Axis' checked?

If not, can you enabled this and see where the component's axis is then?

Thanks. I took a look at that and everything checked out OK. However, I noticed an artifact of some kind that was not selectable as well as a stray guideline.

I copied the model to a new file without the artifact and guideline and Saved As the old file. It looks like this has fixed the problem.

              Thanks.

Bryan, those little line segments can get you. It's especially hard if you have inadvertently hidden instead of deleted the errant line.

Thanks Dave! It took me all evening to find those gremlins. But in the end, it was just me. πŸ˜„

Gentlemen, thanks to both of you. Your advice helped me find the problem. πŸ‘

There's a LooseGeometry plugin that could help with locating these. Haven't used it but I think Chris Fullmer wrote it?

                      Hi folks.

Follow this procedure to get rid aof all stray geometries in one shot:

1 - Show everything to allow the Select Tool to select all.

                      2 - Select all.

3 - Press and hold the SHIFT key to allow you to add/subtract from the selection

4 - While still pressing the SHIFT key, do a window select of the part(s) of the model that you want to keep. This will deselect these and only the stray geometries will remian selected.

5 - Release the SHIFT key.

6 - Press the DELETE key. Normally, all stray geometries shall vanish.

If you are unlucky and find that some stray geometries where aligned with the camera and model (and behind it), and ths, have not been deleted, orbit differently and repeat the procedure.

                      Just ideas.

Jean (Johnny) Lemire from Repentigny, Quebec, Canada.

That's my solution too, Jean. Far quicker than trying to remember which plugin to use. It's the KISS principle. As you say, you need to show everything...including hidden geometry.

I remember Gaius suggesting that back in the day as well.

                            Thanks again to everyone.

In this instance, it was some kind of non-selectable artifact (a cross mark) and a stray guideline that was causing the problem.

My solution was to select just the model itself and then Paste in Place to a new file, then do a Save As the old file and overwrite it.

                            Worked just fine.
