Yes, I'm afraid I suffer from this conditional also.

Yep Pete, I think Pilou's nailed it!
The 'Drop' ruby. Also named here by Daniel Tal.
-
Spray Components by Didier Bur have inside Menu "Stay vertical" !

-
...'more curvy' terrain with 'drop at intersection'
-
So, is 'drop15' the same one?
edit; v1.5

Thanks guys, After every new version of SU comes out I load ruby's as I need them and finding them can be difficult if you are an idiot like me and deleted SU 7 and all its files including ruby folder.
-
Seem you have possibility to Copy / Past some plugs from the old folder Plugins to the new

The one on Smustard is version 1.52...so tiny bit newer

One issue...
It drops right, but if you make a mistake and try to use undo, it undoes one at a tome, now if you have 200 poles it's a problem.
-
even if they're all one component?
-
If they are all one component then they do not follow the terrain, they need to be seperate components for the drop to work.
-
Maybe someone could PM TBD to request a fix?

Pete,
Check Thom's Raytracer tools as well. Should do what you need with a one step undo. http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=30509
