Solid volume display in entity info is much welcomed.

though it'd be nice to be able to change the units.. i draw in feet&inches but volume (for me at least) is always cubic yards..(concrete)
      /27 for now.

Yea - we use mm - but area and volume in m.

Good thing is that total area for materials are now calculated correct for skewed groups/components.

Wow, solid tools are super fast! Toolbar fix is also huge. So far so good! Ruby calculations seem faster as well.

From what I've heard, Ruby 1.8.6 is faster than 1.8.0 - though I've yet to run any number on this.

Thom, i have recollections of jim running some tests after changing to 1.8.6 and finding it was indeed faster.

I ran Make Fur on a sphere and it calculated over 200K polygons in 28 seconds clean. Ran the same test in SU 7.1 and the screen went white and I got the spinning circle for over two minutes.

Just installed the free version, it seems I can run both the new one and the old 7.08, this is great to discover the new features "safely" ๐Ÿ˜

How do you do that, as it would be good to keep the old version for dwg imports?

Do you simply set it up in a different folder, or is this an automatic new feature?

It should just install in its own folder without you having to do anything.

Each major SU version will install into a separate folder.

You can have SU6 and SU7 and S8 side by side.
But you can not have SU7.0 and SU7.1 side by side.

Just downloaded and installed SU8 free into it's own directory. No conflicts so far with my pre-existing SU7 install (didn't think there would be but you can never tell when something messes with the Windows registry file).

Now to start moving and testing the 7.x plugins and scripts ... ๐Ÿ˜‰

                                Cheers.

Sorry - but just about every other major upgrade that I have used (vX to vX) had visual differences. Sadly, v8 FREE visually looks EXACTLY like v7. No new visual improvements. It may be faster, speed-wise but I would have preferred to have some visual differences. It looks like a Win 95 interface for 2010 and beyond. Heck, even some betas that I've been involved in look radically different form Beta to beta.

As someone else pointed out, you don't take away features and it should have been v7.2. I think I'll stick with 7.1 for now.

                                    Sorry - just disappointed.

I think the tremendous update from 'Style Builder' to 'Style Builder 2' says is all and gives a pretty good impression what Google thinks of its customers.

On a more optimistic note: Blender 2.5 has gone beta! [about half a month now] and it rocks!

I liked grabbing the Ariel from Google Earth better. The graphics coming into 8 seem a little fuzzy to me with this new method. I'll have to test it on some other regions, but it's a little clumsy, most likely because it's new. Old work flows die hard.

You have to have something in the plugin folder in order for the menu to appear (something that requires the plugin menu)

(and the plugin folder isn't the same as for su7. You have to move or copy them to the su8 plugin folder)
