I do, but only for the protractor and follow me tool... Come to think of it, I'm gonna map those to hotkeys and open up some space πŸ˜„

Depends what you mean by "use it"? I guess I always like it open, but I don't really use it very often. I mostly use it for "place camera". Now I'm thinking I should look at removing it too, since I don't use it that much...

Now think of it, guys, these altogether are only 3 tools! So much real estate for these 3?

For the Follow me I use a shortcut (F) but I put the 2 other, less frequently used tools to my custom toolbar (as you can see above).

Also, it allows you to add tools that do not have buttons otherwise...

Neither. I use Jim's custom toolbar plugin for the less frequently used tools

and also short cuts for my "everyday" tools.

Where can I find "Jim's custom toolbar plug in" option plug in?

Oh I know it's silly, I'm not arguing that πŸ˜„ I think SU feels naked with out it - which is also silly.

I also use it a lot when I am doing video tutorials so I can click on the icons instead of shortcut keys so viewers can follow along easier. But I have not done a video for a while, I'm sure I could turn it off while I do not need it. Its just a hard habit to break

Man, now youv'e got me thinking. Feels naked without it, and when I'm showing someone how to begin using SketchUp I always get them to use it,( Pass on my bad habits), but....

It's helpful for a beginner. It emphasizes a lot can be done with a few tools. but I have been a "beginner" now for...how long? I should put it away and learn the shortcuts I don't use yet. It is like my CAD toolsets which have lots of tools on them, and I use them without hardly looking anymore.

I do but I'm less adept than the more efficient, all shortcut users. I think it helps keep one's memory fresh to have the icons hanging around for a good while, esp. as the set grows and grows with plugs you want to learn to use.

For me moving to a two monitor setup was much more relevant to the issue of freeing real estate and being productive.

I usually leave the toolbars on, which is pretty inneficient I guess, as everytime it crashes and the toolbars go flying I never put them back in the same place...It takes me ages to find the tool I'm looking for!

for the common commands I use keyboard shortcuts.

and yes I use the large toolset...the small ones are just too small for my inefficient eyes...and I have massive glasses! πŸ€“
