Keeping scenes intact while modeling?
-
Hi, currently I use Sketchup and Layout to do all design, visualization and shop drawings for my company. To show different angles, internal structures etc I use scenes in Sketchup to access in Layout just like everyone else. The problem I have is that I make scenes by hiding geometry and when I add any structures to the model I have to update all the scenes to remove the new stuff and keep them constant (sometimes 25+ scenes). Is their any way to change this behavior?
I use layers generally to separate floors/ walls etc for quick navigating with a client so I would like to stay with hiding geometry for scenes (it's so fast!) but I am open to possible workflow changes if it's not possible to change the current behavior.
Thanks a lot for any suggestions!

Use similar Styles ?

Sorry, I don't follow you? Am I missing something that relates styles to the visible geometry in scenes?

You can hide geometry on multiple Scenes at the same time. Just select multiple Scenes in the Scenes dialog using either Ctrl-click or Shift click.
Then hit the Update Scene button in the Scenes dialog, and select the Hidden Geometry checkbox to update only hidden geometry on the selected Scenes.

I think there is also a plugin that allows you to add new scenes to the model that are turned off in all scenes by default. Then its easier to just specify what scene to have it visible in. I think the plugin is available on this forum, possibly written by one of the two people above. Or maybe Ric, I really don't recall - sorry!

You mean new layers, Chris?
Jim's Add Hidden Layer plugin would do that...

So far Jim's brilliant tip about updating multiple scenes at once is the winner for me. I'm worried about it getting too confusing with hidden layers. Maybe I'm not as open to workflow changes as I thought .
I'm really surprised that I haven't found a plugin made to "freeze scenes".
Nobody else has come across one?
Thank you all so much for your help!

I guess the same techinque would work just as well with layers as of hidden geometry. Just deselect the layer you want to hide, then update all the scenes with the update button in the Scenes Manager. Select Visible Layers in the Scene Update to update all the scenes and the new Layer will be invisible in all the selected Scenes.

The only problem is that all the scenes will be updated with the layers you have selected/deselected and that is not the intention is it?
So the problem remains I right?
