Vray cpu rendering usage
-
I use a CPU usage Gadget, on my Vista Desktop. It monitors the CPU activity and available Ram used by various programs in use.
When I run Vray within Sketchup, Rendering a frame always steals the entire 100% of each of the 4 Core resources available on my system. This brings my system to its knees. That means I can barely do anything else while the rendering is taking place. Trying to access this forum or Goggling is virtually impossible. In addition on more than one occasion while experimenting with various caustic values, when the Building caustics photon map was taking place, my computer eventually ran out of available Ram. At which point I had no other option but to Reboot.
While in the Task Manager that simple SU object for testing caustics had grown to 3,300,000 k in SketchUp.exe *32.The attached pic was taken with Snagit, while a Vray rendering was taking place in SU. using Vray v1.5.05.30

Under General Switches there is a "Low Priority" checkbox - tick that and the system should become more responsive.
Unfortunately - it's currently missing in the latest version...@tomot said:

Why need to reboot? restarting SU wasn't enough?
When you reach the memory limits of 32bit apps when rendering in VfSU - try to render out to VRImage. It render straight to file instead of the VFB - that often frees up your RAM enough.
In regards to caustics - did you set a limit to it's search radius and number of photons etc? Or did you let it run max?

When your out of ram, you can't even open the task manager to end the *SketchUp32.exe 32 task.
