meh? I just downloaded the PLE and I get 7.0... ?
-
I'm trying to import a .skp file into VUE7. The .skp is saved in SU6 format. But I get an error message saying it can't read file.
Any requirements to the .skp in order for it to import? -
Hmmm, not sure about the PLE version, cannot find anything on the site so far.
Anyway. seen this? Vue used in Terra X movie.
-
I seem to be completely unable to import SU6 files. But SU5 seems to work. With simple test scenes it works fine, but when I try to import a real project I find many things misplaced upon import. Any clue to how to circumvent this?
-
Does VUE not handle nested components/groups?
-
It does, all my SU models have nested groups and components and it works great with Vue, I however export as .3ds and open up in Vue, I do not use the .skp import.
-
.3ds worked more reliably.
-
Make sure to UN-check stand alone edges.
-
Can VUE generate terrain from DWG files?
-
What .3ds export settings do you use?
-

Another fast and dirty test, I wanted to make sure the main blades and rotor blades spin at different speeds and on their own axis yet linked to helicopters movements.

This is the basic SU model from 3DWH.

Hi Folks ...
I'm a fairly long time Vue user, since v5, and I do almost all of my rendering in Vue. I've also been using Sketchup (SU) for quite a while, and most of the architectural elements in my scenes are built and textured in Sketchup (to create shading domains), imported into Vue as SKP files, and retextured inside Vue.
Some examples on my Renderosity gallery - http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/browse.php?user_id=434993.
I am having a few issues importing SU into Vue Infinite v7.4 which has just added SU7 support, and sometimes simple models don't import for reasons I don't understand. I use the free version of SU, so the other option is OBJ export.
Also, heavily nested groups don't always import well - sometimes objects end up in odd locations, but if everything is exploded first it isn't a problem usually.
Thanks

Are you running a 64 bit system? as the new 7.4 has great import support for SU7 now on a 32 bit system and not yet supported on 64bit.
Richard out of habit I only use .3ds export which you cannot do due to your SU version. I posted a ticket with E-on as I had a few 'sidebyside' issues with the new update so until that's resolved I'm still using 7.21.

How is the renderspeed i VUE compared to e.g. V-ray or Modo renderengine?
It seems that VUE can make some nice renders! -
It's difficult to compare them as Vue's advantage is atmospheres and procedural terrains that generally are cumbersome for any render engine, but pretty damn fast with Vue.
Like all render engines speed is also relative to your machine and Vue is optimal on a 64 bit machine with a good GPU and as many cores and ram as possible.Again one can set up and tweak render settings in Modo and Vray to an extent that they give fantastic results at crippling render times and with Vue it's the same, just play around with your atmosphere settings and you will notice how speeds can change.
So I'd say Vue and Vray are pretty much similar as far as render speeds go (I cannot talk about Modo as I know nothing of it's render speeds) and really contingent on your render settings. -

I'm using 32-bit.
I was able to import SKPs into 7.4 when exporting as SUv6 models.

The Vue 3D Environment Competition 2009 may be of some interest. Great prizes.
